Z Flip 7 is here

The wait is finally over as Samsung just hosted the Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event today, and we saw some major product releases. While a major chunk of the keynote was about the new Galaxy AI capabilities and their integration across the devices, the new foldable remained the star of the show. It looks like the South Korean tech giant has been determined to change things this time. The company just unveiled its much-anticipated Galaxy Z Flip 7 model, and all the rumors and speculations seem to stand true, for the phone is a noticeable upgrade from its predecessor.

Galaxy Z Flip 7 is here with a bigger battery capacity, thinner design, Exynos 2500 chipset, and the same camera setup as the Flip 6

Samsung just launched its Galaxy Z Flip 7, and it is clearly not the underwhelming update we got last year. Despite the Flip FE variant being the more affordable option, the surprising part was that Flip 7 retained the same price range as its predecessor. While there have been many key refinements, the design clearly stood out, especially with flat edges and rounded corners. Earlier speculations have suggested that the phone would be heavier than its predecessor, and that stands true despite the sleeker build the new model sports.

Samsung has trimmed down its chassis and made the device even more portable, bringing down the thickness to only 13.7mm, a noteworthy reduction from the Z Flip 6 and 6.9mm when unfolded. However, the weight stands at 188 grams, which is a little heavier than the previous Flip model, and it could be due to the bigger battery. The new Flip phone is more pocket-friendly but the compact size is not the standout feature, but rather the display that has us hooked.

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 comes with a refreshed display setup, with the cover display measuring at 41. inch Super AMOLED Flex Window. It is a huge jump from the earlier model and the largest external display on the phone, giving more space for apps and widgets. The model is not just a larger version but also smoother and brighter, owing to the 120Hz refresh rate and the peak brightness of 2,600 nits. Similarly, the main display has moved up from 6.7 inches to 6.9 inches for a better viewing experience that feels more immersive. The upgrades bring Z Flip 7 closer to Motorola's Razr Ultra, which is the company's flagship clamshell.

Another key update this time around is Samsung relying on its own chipset and moving away from Qualcomm for powering its Galaxy Z Flip 7 as the new foldable features the Exynos 2500 chipset, mirroring what reports have been suggesting. This is the first foldable to feature the 3nm chipset and would help in delivering efficiency and powerful performance. Similar to the expectations, the Z Flip 7 did not undergo any major overhaul regarding camera setup.

Galaxy Z Flip 7 continues with the same camera layout by featuring a 50MP wide-angle sensor and a f/1.8 aperture, as well as a 12MP ultra-wide lens with an f/2.2 aperture. There is no notable upgrade except the addition of a 10-bit HDR video recording to improve the video quality and bring in better contrast and brighter colors. The camera interface also features a new Zoom Slider option for more precision and control when zooming in and out while taking pictures and videos.

Another important improvement is the battery capacity bump in the Galaxy Z Flip 7 that brings it to 4,300mAh, allowing for extensive use and a battery life that can last all day. Even though the charging speed remains the same at 25W, Samsung DeX support extended to the Flip model is going to help have a desktop-like experience with a compatible monitor. This feature has been long-awaited and aids in making the device more versatile. The Flip 7 comes in two storage options: 256GB and 512GB configurations.

Samsung also announced seven years of software and security upgrades, and the One UI 8 brings some new capabilities, such as Now Brief, Now Bar, and Gemini Live, to help make the experience more interactive. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is available for pre-order at $1,100 and will be available starting July 25th. The model comes in three color options: Blue Shadow, Jet Black, and Coral Red. Samsung also has an exclusive Mint color option that is reserved for purchase on its website.
