The 3D TLC NAND and the latest Phison E28 controller appear to be doing exceptionally well, which has Team Group claiming 14,900 MB/s of read speeds on its latest SSD.
Team Group Announces Phison E28 Controller-Based T-Force Z54E PCIe 5.0 SSD in 1 TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB Capacities
SSD manufacturer Team Group has announced its latest PCIe 5.0 mainstream SSD, called T-Force Z54E, which is also its flagship offering, delivering leading sequential read and write speeds. The Z54E SSD uses the PCIe 5.0 interface to achieve incredibly high read/write speeds for faster performance while delivering excellent power efficiency.

Team Group says it has deployed its latest Phison E28 controller, which is built on TSMC's 6nm process node. Phison itself says that the controller is able to deliver up to 14,900 MB/s of sequential read and up to 14,000 MB/s of sequential write speeds, delivering the best-in-class storage performance on the mainstream platforms.

As of now, most PCIe 5.0 SSDs promise 10-14 GB/s of sequential write speeds, with some claiming to reach u pto 14,800 MB/s like the Samsung 9100 Pro and the Kingston FURY Renegade G5. With an additional 100 MB/s of higher speed, Team Group's Z54E takes the lead, but keep in mind that these are theoretical numbers, and the real-world performance doesn't always go in line with the claims.

While the T-Force Z54E has an excellent controller and uses a 232-layer 3D TLC (Triple Level Cell) NAND for achieving such an impressive feat, the final speed is dependent on multiple factors like platform, cooling, and workload type. We have heard reports previously that Core Ultra 200S processors allegedly throttle the performance of PCIe 5.0 SSDs noticeably. That said, poor cooling may also reduce the performance, which is why Team Group has coupled the SSD with its exclusive patented ultra-thin graphene heatsink.

Moreover, users can implement additional cooling measures to ensure good thermals for stable performance. The T-Force Z54E PCIe 5.0 SSD will be available in various capacities: 1 TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB, and the advertised sequential read/write speeds of 14.9 / 14 GB/ps are claimed for the 2 TB and 4 TB versions, while the 1 TB storage will be limited to 14.9 / 13.7 GB/s.
