Steam has hit its highest-ever record of concurrent users online on the platform, exceeding 38 million in total.
PC games are increasing day by day: Steam concurrent players almost hit 40 million
Not a month passed and Steam has already broken its record for the most concurrent players. Last month it reached 37.2 million concurrent players, which was already the best we have seen. Yesterday, it reached a whopping 38.3 million concurrent players, the highest of all time.
In 2024, Steam's concurrent players are on a continuous rise. Even though the average concurrent players are generally several million players less, the overall rise in the player count is obvious from the chart. However, this is the first time that the average concurrent players on Steam aren't looking to go below 30 million.
Since the release of Black Myth: Wukong, the overall concurrent player count has increased dramatically. The game reached about 2.3 million concurrent players at the launch time and even though it's nowhere near this peak player count, it still manages to reach up to half a million concurrent players at peak and over 100K concurrent players on average.
Nonetheless, it's still among the top 10 most played Steam games on the client at the moment worldwide. The rest of the top 10 most played games are mostly multiplayer with Counter-Strike 2 sitting at the top with peak concurrent players of around 1.45 million and an average of over 900K concurrent players.
The second is Dota 2 with over 700K peak concurrent players and a steady 600K+ average concurrent players. Except for a few titles in the top 10 games, most are free-to-play multiplayer games that are crossing several hundred thousand concurrent players in both peak and average.
There is no doubt whether PC players are increasing or not as not only do the Steam charts show the obvious, but the PC hardware market also reveals that the hardware shipments are increasing every quarter. AI PCs are the most popular at the moment, forecasted to grow up to 60% of all the PCs to be shipped by 2027.
Steam's easy-to-access platform for users worldwide along with a pleasant and easy-to-navigate user interface is one of the reasons why most PC gamers are on the platform. The Steam client hosts over 100K games as of June 2024 and keeps getting thousands of games every year in different genres.
