Despite not announcing such products, Microsoft is already selling Starfield Xbox controllers and headsets at certain retailers.

A few pictures of the Starfield Xbox controller and headset had been circulating since last week, but their veracity was still up in the air. Today, however, several users have shared videos of the products already available for sale at retailers like Target.

In the tweets below, you can see both closeups. They don't seem to have any extra features compared to the regular Xbox controllers and headsets, but they're fully branded with Starfield artwork.

Chances are they'll be made official either at Geoff Keighley's Summer Games Fest on June 8th or at the Xbox Games Showcase on June 11th. As mentioned in an article published earlier today, a lot is riding on Starfield for both Microsoft and Bethesda, so a marketing push with branded accessories was to be expected.

Announced at E3 2018 alongside Fallout 76 and The Elder Scrolls VI, Starfield remained in the shadow (except for a few leaks) for three more years, when Bethesda finally shared an in-engine teaser trailer at E3 2021.

The actual gameplay reveal happened last year, though. Game Director Todd Howard stepped on stage at the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase 2022 to kick off a 15-minute segment where players witnessed the player character landing on a planet called Kreet (a moon of Anselon), mining some iron, and infiltrating a base of the Crimson Fleet, a pirate faction that players may also join in the game. The gameplay showed the Starfield version of the lockpicking game as well as other staples of previous Bethesda titles while delivering on the promise of improved animations and far greater graphical fidelity.

The demonstration then moved on to show New Atlantis, the capital city of the United Colonies. Here, the player character was introduced to the Constellation, a faction of explorers dedicated to unraveling the mysteries of the universe, including seemingly alien artifacts that players will find in their travels. With the presentation shifting back to the stage, Todd Howard discussed the character creation (labeled the most detailed yet in a Bethesda game), crafting, and outpost building systems. The kickers came at the end of the Starfield presentation, however, when Howard revealed that the game allows players to build their own spaceships, both in looks and layout. They can also manually fly them when in space and fight in combat against enemy ships. Last but not least, Starfield allows players to land and explore anywhere on any of over a thousand planets thanks to procedural generation technology.

Bethesda Game Studios is set to reveal a lot more in the Starfield Direct that will follow the next Xbox Games Showcase scheduled for this Sunday. As a reminder, Starfield will be released on September 6th for PC and Xbox Series S|X.
