The rumors regarding Starcraft Remastered turned out to be true earlier today when Blizzard Entertainment made it official.

Starcraft Remastered will be out this Summer on Windows and Mac PCs. The game will offer a full graphical overhaul of the beloved classic (and its expansion, Brood War) with high-resolution unit models, buildings, doodads, and tilesets as well as support for widescreen resolutions up to 4K, while gameplay will remain largely untouched.

Blizzard's CEO and Co-Founder Michael Morhaime said:

StarCraft is a pure distillation of Blizzard’s DNA—its story, its balance, and all the little details reflect our long-running commitment to epic entertainment, and it’s been a staple in competitive gaming and esports for almost 20 years. With StarCraft Remastered, we’re modernizing the original game’s visuals, audio, and online support to ensure that players can enjoy StarCraft for another 20 years and beyond.

The developers are also promising improved game audio (both soundtrack and dialogue); new comic-book style illustrations to enhance storytelling in the StarCraft and StarCraft: Brood War campaign missions as well as improved original cinematics to 1080p resolution; advanced matchmaking; full connectivity to Blizzard’s gaming network for social features and updates; cloud saving for campaign progress, custom maps, replays, and keybinds; support for eight new languages in addition to the original five ones (English, German, French, Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish (LatAm and European), Polish, Italian, Russian, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Japanese).

No price has been announced yet, but we'll make sure to let you know as soon as Blizzard confirms it. How do you feel about Starcraft Remastered? Tell us in the comments!
