Following a breakthrough, modder PureDark has released his DLSS 3 mod on Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. He previously showcased the big frame rate improvements in a brief video but didn't release it right away due to some image quality issues.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor famously launched with big performance issues on PC (and, to a lesser extent, on consoles). On day one, even the mighty RTX 4090 struggled to deliver acceptable frame rates not just at 4K but at 1440p, too. Shortly after launch, developer Respawn Entertainment apologized to fans and scrambled to release a few patches that slightly improved the situation, but optimization remained far from optimal.
However, owners of GeForce RTX 40 Series GPUs can now get PureDark's DLSS 3 mod (after subscribing to his Patreon) for a massive performance boost. I've tested the mod in the game's first level (set in Coruscant, the galaxy's capital) and found nearly twice as fast average frames per second, according to CapFrameX.
The above performance capture actually happened in a very intensive section of the level. Later, I captured a longer gameplay stretch in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor that reported an even higher average FPS with DLSS Frame Generation. As you can see below, even the 0.2% FPS is higher with the DLSS 3 mod than the average FPS recorded without it.
Perceptually, while there is still some traversal stuttering every now and then, the game feels a lot smoother with Frame Generation enabled. There are also no visible artifacts in this version.
There are a few caveats. Unlike PureDark's other DLSS 3 mods for Elden Ring and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, this one currently needs to be installed on top of the game's rather shoddy implementation of AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) 2. PureDark is working on swapping FSR2 with DLSS 2 (Super Resolution), though that part is still a work in progress.
For now, you might also want to enable the CAS.fx shader included with the mod via ReShade, as FSR2 blurs the game's textures too much even when set to Quality. Technically, FSR2 already includes RCAS, but it doesn't really show in this game. Of course, if you'd rather use another sharpening shader rather than essentially doubling down on CAS, that is also possible.
PureDark's installation manual also warns users to disable motion blur in the graphics settings of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, as it doesn't interact well with the DLSS 3 mod. Lastly, there is a possibility that the game will suddenly run at a far lower frame rate for no apparent reason. I experienced that myself once in my testing. The current fix is simply toggling Frame Generation off and on again via the upscaler menu.
While not perfect, PureDark's DLSS 3 mod for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor once again offers free frame rate boosts to all GeForce RTX 40 owners. In this case, it's even more needed than in the previous two implementations, given the disappointing vanilla performance of the game.
