Star Ocean: The Second Story R

Star Ocean: The Second Story R, a proper remake of the second entry in the series created by tri-Ace, was announced today with a new, gorgeous trailer.

The new trailer, which was shared during today's Nintendo Direct, showcased the features of the remake, which include redone art that looks much, much better than that of the PSP remaster, new visuals combining 3D locations with 2D sprites, and combat enhancements, which include the ability to stun enemies by performing chain attacks, the ability to summon inactive party members at will during fights and, best of all in my opinion, the removal of spell freezing which halted the action whenever most offensive spells were cast.

For the rest, Star Ocean: The Second Story R seems to feature little changes over the original release, as it will feature its same dual protagonist system and a story that will take Claude and Rena to face a danger that threatens the whole galaxy.

Though the game was announced only for Nintendo Switch during today's Nintendo Direct, Star Ocean: The Second Story R will also launch on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4 on November 2nd, 2023 worldwide. A physical release was also confirmed for consoles.
