Sony Locks In June 2 State of Play With Marvel’s Wolverine Headlining, 60+ Minutes of Reveals Confirmed

A PlayStation State of Play broadcast is scheduled for Tuesday, June 2, at various global times including 2:00 PM PT and 5:00 PM ET.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has just announced that a new State of Play is going live on Tuesday, June 2, at 2 PM PT / 5 PM ET / 11 PM CEST on YouTube and Twitch, featuring over 60 minutes of updates and news, including a closer look at Marvel's Wolverine. Insomniac's new game will finally be shown off with more combat and details ahead of its planned launch of September 15 on PlayStation 5 (no PC version is likely happening, as PlayStation Studios head Hermen Hulst confirmed earlier this week the earlier rumor that Sony has indeed switched back to full console exclusivity for its single player first-party games).

Hopefully, we'll learn more about things like the game's narrative trajectory and the secondary characters who will appear in the game. We know that it technically takes place in the same universe as Marvel's Spider-Man (also made by Insomniac), so a few cameos wouldn't be all that surprising. Moreover, whether the game utilizes a traditional open world like Spider-Man or leans into tightly paced, semi-open linear zones remains to be seen, and that's another key aspect that will likely be clarified in the broadcast. I'd bet on the latter, though: whereas Spider-Man has traditionally been closely linked to New York, which was reflected in the games, James "Logan" Howlett, born in Canada according to Marvel lore, has always been far more of a globetrotter.

As for what else might show up, keep in mind that June's State of Play is the de facto replacement for the traditional E3 press conference and will therefore deliver major first-party announcements, high-profile third-party revivals, and world premieres. Last year, Sony showcased the following games:

Beyond Wolverine, it would be about time that fans can watch a new trailer for Naughty Dog's Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, originally announced at The Game Awards 2024.
