Sony Xperia phones used to be my favorite - the last great one that I used was the Xperia Z2, which remained my daily driver for over two years. The company is still making phones under the same brand name, and these phones are seriously overpowered in every way. However, it now appears that the company might be changing the name to something else, and this could hint at a revival.
There is a possibility that we might get a rebranded Sony Xperia phone, and I am all for it
You see, Sony Xperia phones are great. However, Sony does not pay as much attention to their marketing as compared to companies like Samsung and Apple. On top of that, the software support is vague at best, and the launch happens in a limited market. This keeps the phones from being ready for prime time, but if the latest leak is true, then Sony might be doing something to the brand.
A reliable Sony leaker who goes by the name ZACKBUKS simply wrote on his Weibo account, "2008-2023 Xperia the best," this could mean a lot of things, but it could also mean that Sony is actually looking to rebrand the series altogether. The other speculation that I have, which I hope is not true, is that the company is exiting the smartphone market.
Sony has been releasing some of the best phones under the Xperia lineup, and despite their limited availability, the phones are good enough to battle some of the most popular smartphones from other companies. And it genuinely would be a shame to see Sony exit the market.
Sadly, we will not be getting a lot of details just yet, but considering how the company announced its latest flagship smartphone camera sensor today, there is a chance that there are a few more announcements that Sony wants us to wait for. Whenever there is an official word or more news, we will be sure to let everyone know.
