Sonic Frontiers, the latest entry in the series by SEGA, is a much different game than its immediate predecessors, featuring a new open-world setting and a more involving battle system that allowed the developers to go wild with Sonic's abilities. One of the Blue Hedgehog's most iconic abilities, the Spin Dash, however, didn't make it in the game, but it sounds like players will soon be able to spin dash their way through the game's different isles in the near future.
Speaking on Twitter, game director Morio Kishimoto revealed that the game's second update will indeed bring back the Spin Dash skill. Interestingly enough, the ability was being tested for the game's first update, but the developer wasn't happy about it, deciding to delay its implementation and perfect it in time for the second update's release.

Alongside the Spin Dash ability, the second Sonic Frontiers update will also bring plenty of other content, including a celebration of Sonic's birthday, a new Open Zone challenge, and a new Koco. A release window for this update has yet to be announced, but given it will celebrate Sonic's birthday, it should go live close to June 23rd.
The first Sonic Frontiers update, which went live last month, brought plenty of new features, such as a Photo Mode and new challenge modes, such as the Cyber Space Challenge mod, which challenges players with completing seven stages from each island in the shortest time possible, and Battle Rush, another timed challenge which tasks players with defeating multiple rounds of enemies, including Guardians and Titans, as quickly as possible.
Sonic Frontiers is now available on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch worldwide. You can learn more about one of the best entries in the series in a long time by checking out my review.
Sonic Frontiers may not be the best Sonic the Hedgehog ever made, but it's definitely in the upper echelon of the franchise. The new open-world formula works surprisingly well even with its issues, and Cyber Space stages and combat are well-designed, engaging and, most of all, fun. With some tweaks, the Sonic Frontiers formula could be the basis for the franchise moving forward, potentially bringing it back to its glory days.
