Well, scamming individuals is relatively 'ordinary', but when someone scams your mayor by ripping them off with a PC build, that's next-level stuff, and this has apparently happened in the Philippines.
Philippines Mayor Ends Up Paying Nearly 200x the Price for a PC Build Worth Less Than $1,000
We have discussed several instances in the past where scammers have managed to leverage uninformed consumers by selling them builds with outrageous prices; however, this is apparently the first occasion on a rather 'government' level. Based on a post on PCMR Reddit, which quotes the Facebook user 'Ukc Ibrahim', it is revealed that a former mayor bought a PC worth 10 million Philippine pesos, which equates to around $175,000, but the hilarious aspect of this incident is that the PC itself probably looks something under the $1000 price segment.
The current mayor has apparently discussed the situation, mentioning a possibility of a 'corrupted deal,' although we won't go into that for now. Based on the images of the build share, it doesn't look like a $175K build at all, and rather, on first glance, the PC has a dedicated HDD onboard, which is attached right onto the front of the case. The casing looks like an mATX-compatible unit, and the onboard processor is likely an Alder Lake model, or above, considering that the stock cooler is the relatively newer one, probably the RH1 or the RM1 SKU.

We are also looking at ASUS's PRIME H610-R mATX motherboard, which has a CVS 750W power supply and no discrete GPU onboard. The RAM sticks are likely G.Skill's Ripjaws modules, like in 16 GB or 32 GB configurations, but these specifications alone are merely under the $1000 budget segment, which shows that the Philippines mayor probably got scammed by a 200x higher price tag than what the PC should've cost. There are definitely politics involved in purchasing the PC at such a price since, at the government level, there is little background research before buying such equipment.
You should definitely monitor the coverages at WCCFtech to avoid scams, and make sure to do ample research before getting a build. Otherwise, you would end up paying a lot more, similar to the Philippines mayor.
