Solasta: Crown of the Magister

With the Dungeons and Dragons craze reignited thanks to the successful and highly enjoyable movie currently in theaters, it is a great time to remind players of Solasta: Crown of the Magister.

The tactical RPG released by Paris-based studio Tactical Adventures in May 2021 may not be as famous as Larian's Baldur's Gate 3, but many D&D fans swear it is the most faithful and complete videogame adaptation of Dungeons and Dragons' Systems Reference Document (SRD) 5.1.

In the nearly two years since its debut, Solasta: Crown of the Magister has received many updates and improvements through patches and DLCs. Whereas it launched with just seven classes, the DLCs have added another five classes, not to mention new races, subclasses, spells, feats, monsters, and new story content. There's even more coming soon, as the Palace of Ice DLC due in May will add another 25 hours worth of campaign content, brand new locations and weather effects, two new races (Gnomes and Tieflings), and several new enemy types, items, spells, et cetera.

With the Palace of Ice DLC and the second anniversary coming up soon, we've partnered with Tactical Adventures to give away 15 Steam codes for the base game (currently priced at $39.99 in the store). Just enter the raffle via the Gleam box below for a chance to win; we'll select the winners in a month. Good luck!

Solasta: Crown of the Magister received a 7.5 out of 10 rating in Wccftech's launch review by Francesco De Meo.

With its extremely faithful rendition of the Dungeons & Dragons 5e ruleset, Solasta: Crown of the Magister is a dream come true for all those D&D fans who also happen to love video games. However, strict adherence to this ruleset is also the game's main flaw, as it results in an overwhelming experience for all those who do not live and breathe Dungeons & Dragons. Those who power through the initial difficulties, though, will find a solid cRPG featuring great tactical combat and amazing depth.

On top of the official campaigns, the game also features an extensive dungeon maker tool (which will be further improved in the Palace of Ice DLC) that the community has used to create dozens of dungeons and even full-fledged custom campaigns. You can find them on popular mod websites, such as Nexus Mods, Mod.io, and Steam Workshop. There's also a massive community mod called Unfinished Business that adds even more subclasses, features, and customization options.
