Snap Is Reportedly Working On A Drone For Overhead Photos And Videos
The maker of Snapchat and Spectacles is reportedly in works to develop a drone. The report comes from The New York Times that cites that the drone could be potentially used to take photos and videos. However, at this point in time, it is yet not clear whether the drone will be available to the general public. Let's see some more details on the subject.
Snap Is Working On Launching Drones For Photos And Videos?
Snap's move to launch a drone emphasizes its interest in new product lineup. Previously, the company released Spectacles which were equipped with a built-in camera. It's not uncanny for the company to introduce products related to taking pictures and videos as the company has branded itself as a camera company. Henceforth, it seems Snap's products are lined perfectly as a compliment to Snapchat. Snap CEO Even Spiegel stated in a video for investors last month:
"Snap is a camera company. We feel like we’re really at the beginning of what cameras can do, evolve from being just a piece of hardware to software connected to the internet,"
The video camera sunglasses, Spectacles was the company's first product which was initially launched in November of last year. The product was able to record short videos and share it on Snapchat, the company's disappearing messaging platform. The over-sized Spectacles also had the ability to take photos. When a user pressed the button located on the top left hand corner, the video recording mode will capture 10 seconds of the video. Pressing the same button again would expand the time to 30 seconds. The glasses were available in three different colors with a price of $130.
It's good to see that Snap is exploring new ways of storytelling, something that does not copy the likes of other giants of the industry much like Facebook. Apart from this, the report of Snap working on a drone comes ahead of the company's initial public offering this week. Snap is hoped to set the price of its stock on Wednesday before it moves ahead in trading on the New York Stock Exchange on Thursday. Snap is expected to be valued at more than $20 billion by the IPO.
Nonetheless, Snap making its way to launch new products could potentially put it in a better place. This is it for now, folks. What are your thoughts on Snap working on a drone to take photos and videos? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
