New OLED iPad Pro models are expected to enter the market soon, with Apple’s suppliers Samsung and LG apparently working in full swing to ensure that supply is not disrupted. However, there is only so much that display manufacturers can achieve, especially with Apple’s stringent quality requirements. According to an analyst’s prediction, it is likely that one model will be in short supply, and it is going to be the smaller 11-inch version.

For his paid subscribers, Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) founder and CEO Ross Young provided an update on the 11-inch and 12.9-inch OLED iPad Pro models, with the information spotted by 9to5Mac. Though the bigger version may be plentiful when it comes to supply, the 11-inch might become difficult to get your hands on after it materializes, and there might be an explanation for why. Currently, the 11-inch OLED panels are being mass-produced by Samsung, and LG is also expected to commence production afterward.
LG may have its hands full with the larger 12.9-inch version, which may suggest why it did not start mass production of the 11-inch model at the same time as Samsung. Unfortunately, this delay will have an adverse impact on consumers wishing to get their hands on the smaller OLED iPad Pro, and since it is more portable and will likely be more affordable than the 12.9-inch counterpart, it could end up being the more successful version.
Young noted that the 11-inch OLED iPad Pro panel production ‘looks to be behind’ the 12.9-inch variant, but the problem may be addressed once LG starts production. The issue could lie in the type of OLED that Apple wants for both of its iPad Pro models, as these are more costly to produce. However, the benefit is that these panels sport a two-stack tandem technology, which increases not only overall brightness but also lifespan, making the OLED iPad Pro models more reliable compared to other models sporting the same display technology.
