Steam Machine Hits eBay As Scalpers Start Selling Their Reservations on the Platform for Over $2700
Scalping is probably the second most hated thing in the market, while high DDR5 prices remain at the top. Just recently, we saw how scalpers immediately bought the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D 10th Anniversary edition and started selling it for nearly 2X the price on eBay. This is how it goes after every successful launch, and some actual people buy the expensive hardware.
Right when the Steam Machine reservations started, scalpers did not even spare that. While the Steam Machine hasn't hit the shelves, Valve has already allowed users to reserve their spots for buying the machine, which will release on June 29, 2026. There are still two days left for the official launch, but scalpers have found a way of reselling the new machine even without having access to them.
That is by selling their reservations on eBay for a hefty price. The Steam Machine is already going to be limited in supply, and scalpers have started taking advantage of this situation. We can now see reservations being sold on eBay for ridiculous prices that exceed $2,500. One listing shows a price tag of $2,700, while another for $2,899. This is nearly 2-2.5X pricier than their official pricing as per Valve.
Both listings are 2 TB console versions that will be sold for around $1,349-$1,400. The worst thing is that some people have actually paid those inflated eBay prices for the reservations, and this practice is unlikely to stop unless buyers refuse to support it. Remember that you can already build or buy a powerful gaming PC for $2000, using Ryzen 9070 XT, 32 GB RAM, and a 2 TB SSD, which is going to be significantly faster than the Steam Machine.
