Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold is now finally being specced.

Samsung does not appear to be sure of the initial reception that its upcoming triple folding smartphone, dubbed the Galaxy Z TriFold, would be able to garner, and is stepping cautiously into the smartphone's launch cadence as a result.

Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold only manufactured in "negligible" quantities

The South Korean publication, The Elec, is now out with a hard-hitting report on the Galaxy Z TriFold's upcoming launch cadence, noting that Samsung has only manufactured components that are sufficient for an initial production volume of just 20,000 to 30,000 units, constituting an uptick from the 10,000 units that Samsung planned to manufacture initially, as per the information it shared with its suppliers back in July.

Since then, however, Samsung has had no meaningful conversations with the components suppliers for the Galaxy Z TriFold, and it remains unclear if the South Korean behemoth intends to manufacture additional units at this stage.

Of course, an initial production volume of 20,000-30,000 is "negligible" by Samsung's standards, whose Galaxy S25 Edge, now largely considered a dud, managed to secure a sales volume of 650,000 in its first month alone. Still, one must account for the huge price disparity between the S25 Edge and the upcoming Galaxy Z TriFold, whose base variant is expected to go on sale for around $2,000.

For the benefit of those who might not be aware, Samsung's Galaxy Z TriFold features a triple-folding form factor, replete with two hinges, where one has a tighter radius, allowing the inward folding displays to layer on top of each other, thus protecting the more sensitive inner display from the elements. This contrasts with the approach that Huawei used for its Mate XT, which combines an inward-folding display with the one that folds outwards.

Additionally, the Galaxy Z TriFold features a 10-inch OLED inner display (vs. the 8-inch one on the Galaxy Fold 7) and a 6.5-inch outer one, relatively thick bezels, a triple camera setup at the back - consisting of a 200-megapixel primary camera with 100x zoom capabilities, a 12-megapixel ultrawide lens, and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom - three batteries, possibly silicon-carbon ones, with a combined capacity of over 5,000mAh, and the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC, all encased within a titanium shell.
