Samsung remains a leader in the foldable category, as users have well received its new foldable phones Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Fold 6. The tech giant keeps on evolving the foldable by introducing various iterations now and then. While the company made its mark by bringing the technology before others, it is said to be working on some new innovative designs that would be fresh in the market as well, and it might be the first one to bring them forward as well.
Samsung is working on new form factors and would likely be the first one to launch double-foldable and rollable
The Galaxy Unpacked 2024 involved some significant product launches, including the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6. Samsung is still adamant about bringing more innovations by developing new form factors that the company is set on being the first to bring to the market.
As reported by PhoneArena, Samsung exec Chung Yi shared at the iMid 2024 conference about the development of some new foldable devices with unique form factors, such as rollable and foldable. Although no timeline has been provided for the launch of the devices, it sure would be interesting when Samsung pioneers a new design and revamps how foldables are seen and used
The Display VP shared that Samsung is working on the technology vigorously to ensure the larger screen is portable and easy to carry around. We have been hearing about a double-foldable Galaxy smartphone coming out for quite some time, even before the Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 were unveiled but it seems with more news now shaping up, the release might not be far off.
While this concept is not novel to Samsung alone, many other brands, such as Oppo, Huawei, and Xiaomi, are said to be working on similar technology. For instance, reports suggest that Huawei is working on a triple-foldable phone. This phone is rumored to come with a display about as large as the 10th-generation iPad. If it is released by September, you might see the device come out even before Samsung's and take away its position as the innovator.
While previous reports have claimed that the rollable display that Samsung Display demoed might come out in 2025, nothing can be said for certain as it has been in development for a few years. A triple-fold design does seem promising for the new form factor it would bring about and would be a pivot in fold devices. Samsung does give high hopes of an expansive screen, but more would shape up as the rolling out of the multiple-fold phone comes closer.
