The Galaxy G Fold, which has been hinted to be Samsung’s first tri-fold smartphone, currently does not have a concrete launch date, even though previous rumors have claimed that this model would undergo mass production at the same time as the company’s upcoming foldable flagship, the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Sadly, it appears that the Korean giant will take its sweet time with the Galaxy G Fold, but that does not mean it will differ from the Galaxy Z Fold 7, as a new rumor claims that there will be various design similarities between the two.
Design similarities could be present between the Galaxy G Fold and the Galaxy Z Fold 7 to help reduce manufacturing costs and allow Samsung to introduce the unique smartphone faster
Not every aspect of the Galaxy G Fold will be similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 7, but @PandaFlashPro mentions in his latest post on X that this particular model is ‘confirmed,’ highlighting that, at the very least, it is in development. As for the similarities, Samsung’s tri-fold smartphone is said to have the same speaker drivers and cutouts as the Galaxy Z Fold 7, along with a similar hinge mechanism. It is possible that the Korean manufacturer informed its supply chain to deliver the exact same components, but they will be intended for different models.
Given that these smartphones are already expensive to produce, the Galaxy G Fold is not going to be an affordable affair either. Instead of mass manufacturing variable parts that increase the entire bill for Samsung, the latter is attempting to introduce efficiency to its supply chain by re-using the same parts for both models. Looking at the Huawei Mate XT, the Galaxy G Fold will be produced in fewer quantities because it will target a limited audience, meaning that the scale economics were already going out of favor for Samsung.

In a follow-up post, the rumor states that the tri-fold smartphone will support video recording at 8K 30FPS, but it appears that only the primary camera will be able to capture footage at the aforementioned resolution and framerate. This is disappointing to learn, considering that Samsung will charge a small fortune for the Galaxy G Fold, but we recommend waiting for more updates, so stay tuned.
