In regions outside of the U.S. where only Exynos-powered Galaxy flagships are sold, customers have little choice but to proceed with the purchase, but one Galaxy S22 Ultra owner recounts the time the latter’s overheating problem became so dire that it could have turned into a nightmare. Luckily, the person had another Samsung smartphone, this time, a Galaxy Z Fold 6, to warn him of any impending dangers. Suffice to say that this will be the last time he ever purchases an Exynos-powered handset.
Galaxy S22 Ultra owner’s biggest mistake was leaving the smartphone charging overnight
During a U.K. heatwave, Reddit user “Boring-Product-8257” says that he was alerted by his Galaxy Z Fold 6 in the middle of the night regarding overheating from the Galaxy S22 Ultra. The owner’s first mistake was having plugged in the Exynos-powered smartphone with a charger, irrespective of whether it was a low-wattage power brick or not. What followed wasn’t a pretty picture.
“The Chaotic Night During a recent UK heatwave, I was woken up in the middle of the night. My Galaxy Z Fold 6 (which was nearby) was flashing light notifications to alert me because of the extreme, intense heat radiating off my S22 Ultra, which was plugged into a standard slow charger.”
The surrounding humidity and intense heat caused the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s display to suffer a catastrophic failure, not to mention the rear panel getting lifted. The Exynos’ overheating caused the device to go into a bootlooping state, getting dangerously hot to the point of being rendered useless, all in a time span of just five hours.
While the owner credits the Galaxy Z Fold 6 for warning him of the imminent danger, he also states that the latter was no stranger to overheating incidents. Due to these two instances, Boring-Product-8257 says that he has left Samsung for good and switched to the Pixel 10 Pro XL, a flagship with its own fair share of software and hardware problems.
Although Samsung’s Exynos series is notorious for overheating even under normal circumstances, the Redditor’s post never once acknowledged his own mistake for leaving the Galaxy S22 Ultra charging overnight. Keeping a smartphone topped up is just asking for trouble, and if his charging habits aren’t addressed with the Pixel 10 Pro XL, we’re sure to check out another post of his on the same social network.
