Samsung Display Introduces QD-OLED Penta Tandem-Based 4K Monitor, Alongside 34-inch Self-Emissive Monitor at Computex; Also Introduces "Ultra Slim" Display for Laptops
Samsung Display has officially introduced the RGB Penta Tandem technology in one of its newest flagship monitors. The company today announced a wide range of display products at Computex, Taipei. As many as 16 products have been announced in the new stack, but the highlights were the first 4K 360Hz Penta Tandem monitor and Ultra Slim.
Samsung says it has prepared the world's first 4K 360 Hz QD-OLED monitor, featuring the five-layer Penta Tandem technology. This panel uses five RGB layers to improve brightness, color accuracy, and sharpness, thanks to the presence of two additional layers. According to Samsung, this is the first self-emissive display that supports both 4K resolution and 360 Hz refresh rate together.
With a 360 Hz refresh rate, it's quite a beast, and considering its high resolution, the monitor is going to deliver excellent visuals through its latest OLED technology. Samsung didn't reveal the model name or specifications in detail yet, but we know this monitor is going to feature leading specifications, including modern connectivity and excellent ergonomics.
Then we have another OLED monitor, boasting a 34-inch display size with a QHD+ resolution. Not much has been shared about the specs, but it will be another display that has earned the True Black 500 certification. The OLED monitor stack will also include options in 27-inch and 31.5-inch at the booth.
At the event, Samsung has also unveiled a new technology called "Ultra Slim". It's a new panel that will power the laptops and is currently under development. As per the company, the Ultra Slim panel reduces the module outer-edge thickness by over 20%. This is achieved by etching the Thin Film Transistor substrate glass and the encapsulation glass. With the new ultra-slim form factor, laptop manufacturers can now produce even thinner laptops than ever.
