Yesterday, Volition shared a new trailer for next month's free Saints Row update. As detailed in the previously reported roadmap, it will add a brand new district called Sunshine Springs to the game, which is the video's focus. According to the developers, Sunshine Springs adds new stores and new activities to Saints Row, and it's the setting for the first expansion coming to the game in May, The Heist and the Hazardous, which will introduce new story missions, events, and cosmetics.

Next month's update is also expected to overhaul combat and adds a proper Photo Mode. In July, Volition plans to release the second expansion, Doc Ketchum's Murder Circus, a solo game mode. The free update due to be released at the same time will add currently unspecified features and improvements to the core game.

Lastly, the following month, the first anniversary of Saints Row will be celebrated with the third DLC, which is set to expand the game with more story missions, cosmetics, and events. The accompanying free update will add yet another district (likely to be the location of the aforementioned story DLC) and more new features.

Saints Row launched in August 2022 as a soft reboot of the popular open world crime franchise. However, the game launched in a disappointing state, failing to review well and sell as much as parent company Embracer Group was hoping. Embracer CEO Lars Wingefors even had to admit in front of investors that return on investment (ROI) wouldn't be great. Volition was also transferred from the Deep Silver label to Gearbox, with Embracer hoping that Gearbox's oversight will be able to improve the studio's performance (which already flopped with their previous title, Agents of Mayhem).

Meanwhile, the folks at Volition are clearly doing their best to improve Saints Row for those fans who stuck with the game despite the rough release.
