This afternoon, independent Polish developer Reikon Games announced that RUINER 2 is in development for PC. As suggested by the title, it will be a sequel to 2017's twin-stick shooter, which was well-received by fans and critics. RUINER earned an 8 out of 10 score on Wccftech:

RUINER is a no-brainer if you are interested in fast-paced action games that require real skill to truly perfect.

However, RUINER 2 will be greatly expanded: it will support co-op gameplay and shift its genre to "cyberpunk action RPG". Marek Roefler, Game Director of the sequel at Reikon, said in a statement:

We are massive ARPG fans, and RUINER 2 is the game we've always wanted to play. We built the Shell System because we love theory-crafting and finding broken combinations, but we hated being locked into a single character for a hundred hours. This game is for players who want to experiment, swap builds on the fly, and discover synergies that tear the screen apart.

Reikon, which recently released the sci-fi first-person shooter METAL EDEN (which was also well received), explained that the sequel will see players return to Rengkok, a cyberpunk dystopia where corporations literally own the rights to your death. This time, players will step into the role of a hacker who can control up to three "bodies" (the Shells) and instantly shift between them during battles. Rather than being limited to a single class, players can unlock unique characters, known as Shells, by defeating bosses.

Each Shell has its own distinct playstyle, four skills with two branching progression nodes each, and a dedicated resource pool (Power, CPU, Memory) that governs gear loadouts with no free slots, so every piece of equipment is a trade-off. There's also a hacker-level passive tree called Neural Network that shapes the entire Shells roster.

In single player mode, players control a team of up to three Shells simultaneously, effectively becoming a one-person army. This system creates Synergies, allowing players to combine the abilities of different Shells to create devastating combos. The same rules apply in co-op mode, where each of up to three players brings their Shells (up to six in total for a team) into the fight. The more players, the more synergies, and the higher the stakes. Reikon has also confirmed an "endless endgame" where players will fight through escalating tiers featuring stronger enemies, better loot, and no ceiling.

The Steam page also already lists the minimum system requirements, which we've posted below.

By the way, RUINER was eventually released for all consoles (PlayStation, Xbox, and even Nintendo Switch). The same could likely happen later for RUINER 2.
