MSI MEG Ai1600T PCIe5 1600W Power Supply Impressions – Titanium, ATX 3.1, RGB, It Has It All!

Mar 11, 2025 at 01:55pm EDT

MSI is a fairly new entrant when it comes to PSU components but the manufacturer has made it a priority to upgrade its entire lineup to the latest ATX 3.0 standard. The manufacturer offers its line in three segments, the entry-level MAG, the mid-tier MPG, and the enthusiast-grade MEG series.

We previously got a taste of the MEG Ai1300P and the MPG A1000G ATX 3.0 PSU but this year, MSI is finally unleashing its flagship product, the MEG Ai1600T which goes all onboard the ATX 3.1 PSU segment with premium components and a powerful 1600W Titanium rating.

MSI MEG Ai1600T 80+ Titanium PSU Specifications

The MSI MEG Power Supplies will be the top offerings from the manufacturer and initially include two variants, the MEG Ai1300P PCIe5 and the MEG Ai1000P PCIe5. There are several features that these PSUs rock besides the ATX 3.1 and PCIe Gen 5.1 standard. First and foremost, we have to talk about the rated power output.

The MSI MEG Ai1600T offers 1600W of power. The MEG Ai1600T offers 1600W of sustained power through its +12V rails at 133.33A. It's voltage is rated between 115-240V (50~60Hz) at 1600W and 100-115V at the 1200W mode. Now the most interesting part about both of these PSUs is the G.I. (Gaming Intelligence). The new G.I. is based on an MPU, a smart processor, that controls the whole AI-assisted process of the PSU. Some of the main features that the G.I. engine provides through the MSI Center application include:

The other most important thing to note here is that this PSU is fully PCIe Gen 5.1 & ATX 3.1 compliant, which means it comes with both a proper PCIe Gen 5.1 connector on the PSU unit and also comes with necessary PCIe Gen 5.1 cables. MSI bundles the MEG PSU series with a 16-pin to 16-pin connector cable (up to 600W). All of these cables are compliant with the PCIe 12V-2x6 standard.

Some protection features that you get on the MSI MEG Ai1300P PSU include:

As for the design of the PSU unit, it comes in an ATX form factor and measures 160 x 150 x 86 mm. The cooling is provided by a top-mounted MSI MEG Silent GALE P12 fan which features LCP (Liquid Crystal Polymer) design with Hydro-Dynamic Bearing for up to 58% higher airflow than traditional fan blades. The PSU also comes with a Software Sync port that can be connected to a USB interface to make use of the G.I. enhancements. MSI ships the MEG Ai1300p with a 10-year warranty and is priced at $359.99 US over at Newegg.

Some main features of the MSI MEG Ai1600T PSU include:

MSI MEG Ai1600T 80+ Titanium PSU Unboxing & Close-Up

The unit we received comes in a large black colored package with several gold hints that are part of the "MEG" aesthetic, plus a picture of the PSU on the front wrap.

The front also lists down several features such as its 80 Plus Titanium, Cybenetics ATX 3.1 Passing, PPLP.INFO ATX3 Pass and Titanium rating.

The unit is held within foam packaging which is great for durability and there's a safety manual that tells you how to install the PSU inside your PC and how to connect the 12V-2x6 connector, either using adapters or directly to the GPU.

The PSU and accessories are packaged in a nice fiber cloth casing. Following is our first look at the PSU itself which looks very premium with the various black and gold accents.

On the back, you can see the power plug, the power switch, the Zero Fan mode switch, and a large mesh panel that acts as an exhaust vent.

Now, depending on how you use the PSU, the bottom panel reads the specifications and power ratings. The PSU is rated to output a maximum of 133.33A and 1600W through the 12V rails.

The sides of the PSU have nice MEG labels and also the MEG logo. There's an interesting feature on the sides which we will get to in a bit.

Coming to the connectors, there are two 2 PCIe 12+4 (12V-2x6), nice PCIe 8-pin connectors for CPU and PCIe devices, an ATX 24-pin (14+10 pin) ATX connector, & four 6-pin connectors for peripherals.

The cables within the packaging pouch include the ATX 20+4 pin, two Gen5.1 (12V-2x6) connectors, two EPS 12V 4+4 pin CPU connectors, 9 PCIe 6+2 connectors, 15 SATA connectors, and 8 Peripheral connectors.

Now let's talk about some of the components within the MEG PSU. To start, MSI is using server-grade electrolytic capacitors which are rated for up to 105C temperatures, a fully digital MCU, SiC PFC MOSFETs, a server-grade transformer that utilizes flat spring coils for smaller volume & higher efficiency and enlarged heatsinks for better heat dissipation.

The PSU comes with a dual-tone 12V-2x6 power connector which helps ensure that it is connected properly to the PSU and the GPU. If the yellow color is visible, it means that the connector isn't fully plugged in.

There are two of these dual-tone cables added within the package so you can boot up to two RTX 5090 GPUs on this PSU if you want to.

MSI MEG Ai1600T 80+ Titanium PSU Final Impressions

MSI was among the first to support the next-gen ATX 3.0 and PCIe 5.0 standards when they were first announced even before the release of the RTX 40 series. With the RTX 50 series from NVIDIA, these newer standards become even more crucial to ensure safety and stable power delivery in gaming PCs.

So to start its ATX 3.1/PCIe 5.1 journey, MSI is kicking things off in fashion with its ultimate PSU in the MEG lineup, the Ai1600T. This gargantuan is an E-ATX offering which offers 1600W of power, comes with the latest set of features and enhanced protection against all sort of power-related issues.

MSI also enters the new era in style with the MEG Ai1600T supporting large RGB-lit panels on the side which conform to the MEG aesthetic and can be customized using their Mystic RGB software. One of the best returning features is the dual-color 12V-2x6 connector which is not only upgraded to the newest standard but retains the same clever decision to color code the cables to allow users to ensure proper connectivity.

With its Titanium rating, lots of power to handle even two RTX 5090 cards, and top-notch design and engineering choices, the MSI MEG Ai1600T is one of the best and most powerful PSU offerings out there that adopts the latest standard from PCI-SEG. The PSU also starts at a Titan-level pricing of $699.99 US, the highest amongst PSUs of similar specs.
