MSI GeForce RTX 3080 Gaming X Trio 10 GB GDDR6X Graphics Card Review – 2nd Generation Tri-Frozr Cooling Put To The Test!

MSI GeForce RTX 3080 Gaming X Trio Power Consumption

I compiled the power consumption results by testing each card under idle and full stress when the card was running games. Each graphics card manufacturer sets a default TDP for the card which can vary from vendor to vendor depending on the extra clocks or board features they plugin on their custom cards. Default TDP for the RTX 3080 is set at 320W while the MSI custom model has a TDP of 340W.

Also, it's worth noting that the 8nm process from Samsung increases the density by around 2x versus the previous generation. NVIDIA is cramping even larger amounts of transistors and more cores than their previous cards, making it one of the densest chips built to date. It's likely to consume a lot of power and the results are reflective of that.
