The LGA 1700 socket is here now. The new socket adds more pins to the socket and changes the dimensions entirely. The new LGA 1700 socket offers 500 more pin connections to the CPU, allowing for more communication channels with the board itself and accommodating electrical pin configurations that are required to support 14th, 13th & 12th Gen CPUs.

So as for the socket details, Intel has gone with an asymmetrical design since the Alder Lake CPUs are no longer square-shaped. The latest desktop CPUs will come in a 37.5x45.0mm package and are supported by the 'V0' socket which we know as LGA 1700.

The socket also changes the mounting positions to a 78x78mm grid rather than a 75x75mm grid. The Z-height has also changed to 6.529mm compared to 7.31mm on the previous LGA 12**/115* sockets.

Cooler Compatibility With LGA 1700 Socket

To make their existing coolers compatible with Intel's Raptor Lake & Alder Lake CPU lineup, many cooling brands have released LGA 1700 upgrade kits which feature mounting hardware for the new socket. But the Intel Raptor Lake and the Alder Lake CPU platform aren't just featuring a brand new mounting design but the CPU dimensions themselves have changed too.

The LGA 1700 (V0) socket not only has an asymmetrical design but also comes with a lower Z-stack height. This means that proper mounting pressure is needed to make full contact with the Intel Alder Lake IHS. Certain cooler manufacturers have already been using larger cold plates for Ryzen and Threadripper CPUs to make proper contact with the IHS but these are mostly higher-end and new cooling designs. Those who are still running older AIOs with round cold plates could have trouble maintaining the required pressure distribution which could lead to inadequate cooling performance.

The Maxsun iCraft B760M Cross motherboard comes in a large anime-themed package. The front features a picture of the Aijia mascot which you might have seen in our various articles covering the Maxsun iCraft graphics cards and motherboards. The front side also lists down support for Intel's 14th generation Core processors and is listed as an "Intel B760 Chipset" product.

The backside of the package lists the specifications and special features of the motherboard such as the triple M.2 slots, 2.5 GbE LAN port, USB 3.2 Gen2x2 ports, the stunning design with skylight RGB, and more.

Opening up the package, you're met with an even bigger picture of the Aijia mascot which can also be seen through the acrylic cover on the front of the box.

The accessories are laid down at the bottom of the package, underneath the motherboard. These include two SATA III cables, A WiFi Antenna with a square stand, a Maxsun branded screw kit, & a tiny Aijia Mascot acrylic stand which looks great. There are even bundled mascot stickers and several i-Craft / Enhancement Heard Princess logos that you can display on your setup or your PC case.

Even the package is worthy of its display as seen below:

With all the accessories done, it's time to put that box aside and take the motherboard out of its package.

Maxsun has gone over and beyond with the looks of its iCraft B760M Cross motherboard. The board is a mATX design which means that it's perfect for mATX cases that cannot support ATX-sized motherboards. The design also leaves room for better accommodation of other hardware components within the case and it's less hard to manage this compact design than the fuller ATX offerings. The motherboard measures 245x245mm.

In terms of design, the Maxsun iCraft B760M Cross motherboard features a white PCB on the front and back. The front features a very nice look accommodated by the pink and blue hues over the several heatsinks and cover plates. The back of the motherboard also comes etched with a picture of the Aijia mascot. If you happen to be using a dual-sided mirror/glass casing, then this board will not be the boring old black PCB that you see on other motherboards.

The board uses the LGA 1700 socket to support Intel Core processors. The socket is compatible with Intel's 14th, 13th & 12th Generation core family. The socket has a protective cover on top of it that points out the exclusivity with Raptor Lake 13th Gen & Alder Lake 12th Gen CPUs, refraining users from running older 11th and 10th generation CPUs as they won't fit in the socket at all and forcing them in the socket is only going to cause permanent damage to your motherboard. Even the socket cover comes with the same pink and blue hue.

Next to the socket are four DDR5 DIMM slots that can support up to 192 GB of dual-channel (24/48 GB modules) memory.

These slots are rated to support XMP profiles up to 7200 MT/s (OC Plus). Each slot is labeled, making it easier to install DIMMs in the proper orientation. DDR5 memory comes with a different latch position so forcing a DDR4 module into a DDR5 slot will cause permanent damage. Each slot is also combined with a reinforced design to make sure signal integrity remains good while keeping the slots durable for long-term usage.

The iCraft B760M Cross motherboard features a 12+1+1 (VCore/ VccGT/VccAUX)  phase digital power delivery that utilizes the Richtek RT3628AE PWM controller and 50A Dr.MOS Vishay SIC654 MOSFETs.

The VRMs receive ample cooling from the integrated enclosed cooling armor which features two large heatsink blocks.

The CPU is supplied power through an 8+4 pin power connector configuration. This will feed the CPU with up to 450 Watts of power. The Intel 14th 13th & 12th Gen Unlocked CPUs are very power-hungry with the maximum turbo power rated at 253W for the Core i9-14900K and more if you are planning to overclock these chips.

Each VRM heatsink comes with a thermal pad underneath it and the front has a nice Gradient coating which comes with the aforementioned blue and pink hue.

Expansion slots include three PCI Express slots (1 x Gen 5.0 x16/8 / 1x Gen 3.0 x4 / 1x Gen 3.0 x1) and three M.2 slots.

All three M.2 slots are cooled off by large heatsinks that have thermal pads applied under them. This is to ensure that the Gen4 storage devices run optimally and don't run into thermal throttling issues although that's not that much of an issue encountered with Gen4 SSDs as much as it is with Gen5 devices.

The topmost M.2 slot is located underneath the VRM heatsink which can make installation a bit tricky. This could have been avoided if the M.2 slot was located on the parallel side but Maxsun might have moved it here due to the limitations imposed by the mATX size of the motherboard.

Following is the full list of storage capabilities offered by the Maxsun B760M iCraft motherboard:

The B760 PCH is housed beneath a heatsink with the iCraft logo etched in the center offering a reflective surface. This iCraft logo is illuminated with RGB once the motherboard is operational.

The motherboard comes with 2 5V ARGB and a single 12V RGB connector. Plus, there's a button onboard that lets you disable or enable the RGB LEDs on the motherboard itself.

For front-panel USB, the motherboard comes with a total of 7 ports which include 1 USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-C connector, 2 USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A connector, and 4 USB 2.0 connectors.

Maxsun is using a 7.1 CH HD audio design with the Realtek ALC897 CODEC which is a little older as the industry has mostly moved towards the 1000+ series.

Maxsun's B760M iCraft comes with a good amount of has massive amount of fan headers and a Power On/Off switch however, there are no diagnostic features such as a DEBUG LED.

The full list of connectors on the motherboard is listed as follows.

Maxsun is using Intel's WiFi 6E "AX211" Module to power wireless connectivity with up to 2.4 Gbps data transfer rates, up to 160 MHz bandwidth, and Bluetooth 5.3. In terms of Ethernet, there is a single 2.5GbE LAN port powered by a Realtek RTL8125BG controller.

The motherboard comes with the following I/O connectors:

For testing, I used the Intel Core i9-13900K which was sent to us by Intel on a range of 700-series motherboards.

The Intel Raptor Lake CPUs feature the brand new hybrid architecture approach composed of Raptor Cove and Gracemont cores. The chip also relies on a brand new 10nm Enhanced SuperFin process node which delivers up to 6.2 GHz clock speeds on the flagship Core i9-14900KS.

The faster clocks along with the addition of more cores should lead to more power consumption but Intel is also touting increased efficiency per watt thanks to the overall performance increases we get this generation.

Maxsun's iCraft B760M Cross motherboard offers a great visual experience in terms of design. The motherboard has a white PCB which is very uncommon to see on entry-level motherboards and is nice for users who are planning white-budget PC builds. There are a lot of white hardware options for budget users out there when it comes to component choices and Maxsun is offering that with its motherboards.

In terms of performance, the motherboard has a 12+1+1 phase power delivery solution which ran the Intel Core i9-13900K fine in the default mode. The performance is on par with the Z790 options in this price range and a unique feature of this motherboard is that it allows users to select 253W as the PL1 TDP which gives a nice boost in performance over the standard 125W PL1 mode but it should be mentioned that Intel's baseline guidance sets the PL1 to 125W and PL2 to 253W so the settings offered by Maxsun may lead to slight instability issues. The issue is less prominent on the B760 series motherboards but we still advise running the CPUs at the default limits. One plus side of this mode is that since the B760 series doesn't officially support BCLK overclocking on K-series SKUs, the 253W PL1 mode can be used to gain better performance when needed.

For memory support, DDR5-7200 is the maximum listed spec for this motherboard and we did run into some issues when booting up the test setup for the first time. The system ran into four loops after which we never encountered the issue. XMP mode is supported so the G.Skill DDR5-7200 kit ran at its official XMP profile.

In terms of storage options, you are getting three M.2 slots with dedicated heatsinks and four SATA III ports. This is the basic storage configuration one should expect from a $150 B760 motherboard. One of the M.2 slots is located underneath the I/O cover which can make installation a bit flimsy.

USB support is good with a total of 16 ports available (7 front panel and 9 on the back) and a 2.5 GbE LAN port t plus there's also the ALC897 codec for audio which can be a bit lacking since it's an older generation. There are 3 fan headers, 1 pump header, 2 ARGB headers, and one RGB header on the motherboard. For those who want to use more fans, well they might be limited & will have to use splitters or 3rd party connections to run additional fans.

Maxsun's iCraft B760M Cross motherboard is a decently built B760 motherboard that features an anime theme but if you look past that, you are getting a nice white-colored motherboard with a nice set of features that are ample for this price point. At $149 US, the Maxsun iCraft Cross is a solid LGA 1700 socketed design and we look forward to more such designs aiming at the value segment in the future.
