Biwin Opal DW100 RGB DDR5 48 GB (2 x 24 GB) 6000 MT/s CL28 EXPO ULL Memory Kit Review – Solid EXPO Kit But Way Overpriced Right Now

In 2026, we live in the worst kind of memory crisis that the consumer market has ever faced. Some people call it the RAMmageddon, and others call it the RAMpocalypse. Whichever way you want to call it, one thing is set: shortages created by massive demand in the AI and data center segment have led to a severe hike in prices across all memory segments.

This came at a time when memory speeds were seeing rapid updates. We saw speeds surge past 9000 MT/s, and some kits were hitting close to 10,000 MT/s. We saw the launch of CUDIMMs and CQDIMMs, plus capacities that pushed 2-DIMM platforms to 256 GB. But these are unobtanium these days. Even entry-level kits are out of reach.

Many manufacturers these days are doing the opposite of what they were doing last year. They are sticking with 6000-6400 MT/s speeds but with super tight latency and timings. We have seen vendors double down on this approach with AMD's new EXPO ULL standard, and others stick by the default EXPO specs to offer enhanced capabilities with the latest DRAM ICs. So today, we will be testing Biwin's premium Opal DW100 DDR5 RGB kit.

Biwin Opal DW100 RGB DDR5-6000 48 GB Memory Kit Specifications

The Biwin Opal DW100 DDR5 RGB memory kit features a premium design and build quality. The name Biwin might sound new to some of you, but they have been around for a long time, & have their own manufacturing and testing facilities. The company also operates its more Enthusiast-aimed brand, called Origin Code.

For this particular testing, Biwin sent us its Black Opan DW100 DDR5 RGB "BXL54860DW1-D28FB" 48 GB (24 GB x 2) kit, which is rated at 6000 MT/s. The memory kit consists of dual 24 GB DIMMs, which make up a total of 48 GB in capacity. Following are the full specifications of the kit I'll be testing.

  • Series: Opal DW100 RGB
  • Module Type: 288 Pin Unbuffered DIMM On-Die ECC
  • Capacity: 24GBx2
  • Frequency: 6000 Mbps
  • Data Transfer Bandwidth: 48.000 MB/s (PC5 48000)
  • Dimensions: 136.19 x 50.24 x 8.40 mm
  • Latency: CL28-36-36-72-108
  • Tested Voltage: 1.40V
  • Heat Spreader: Three-Fin Aluminum heatspreader

The memory kit has a tested latency spec of CL28, and the timings are 28-36-36-72-108 for this specific kit. The voltage set at reference is 1.40V, and the memory kit comes in an unbuffered package with a non-ECC (On-Die Error Correction) design.

The memory kit is fully compliant with AMD EXPO and Intel's XMP standards. DDR5 memory compatibility differs from motherboard to motherboard, so make sure that your board is high-end and rated to support high-clock-speed memory sticks.

As for detailed specs, there is just one EXPO profile that the Opal DW100 kit comes with. The first offers the aforementioned timings. Another thing to note is that the modules are based on the SK Hynix M-Die.

Biwin Opal DW100 RGB DDR5-6000 Memory Kit Unboxing and Close-Up

The Biwin Opal DW100 DDR5 RGB series memory comes in a standard cardboard package. The box has pictures of the memory in black and white colors, and lists various RGB software that it is compatible with. A stick also points out the specifications of the kit you are getting.

The back of the package lists that the kit comes with an express warranty and also offers a glance at the various features.

Within the package are two DDR5 DIMMs.

Outside the package, the Biwin Opal DW100 DDR5 RGB memory kit is a bulky and high-end design. The front has a three-fin heatsink design.

The kit we got comes in black. The memory also comes in all-black and all-white flavors.

Biwin Opal DW100 memory modules feature a full-coverage diffuser that covers the sides, too. It offers 16.8 million RGB colors, 10+ Lighting controls, and 8 distinct lighting zones.

The heat spreader is made using a 2mm aluminum alloy structure. Within this is a thermal pad that connects to each IC and the PMIC. Biwin also employs a Temperature Sensor, while the outside features an electrophoresis coating.

The frame of the memory DIMMs is of a high-class design that uses a matte finish.

Biwin also states that it is using an unlocked PMIC, which dynamically adjusts voltages on the DW100 series to maintain a stable power supply during overclocking. Furthermore, each DIMM features a 10-layer PCB that minimizes electromagnetic interference.

The following is how the memory looks when installed on an X670E motherboard.

Wccftech Memory Test Setup

For testing, I used the latest AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D on the Gigabyte X670E AORUS Extreme motherboard using the latest BIOS with the AGESA 1.3.0.1b Path A firmware, which supports EXPO ULL memory kits. We also used an RTX 5090 for our tests.

DDR5 Memory Kit Performance Tests

I have separated the performance tests into two sections. The first section consists of synthetic and general workload tests, while the second section focuses on gaming performance and how different games are affected by higher-clocked memory sticks.

Gaming Performance Tests

Gaming applications generally don't see huge gains with different memory kits, but DDR5 has enabled a huge gain in memory frequency, which can impact gaming performance. Moving from the stock 2133 Mbps (DDR4) to 6000+ Mbps can have a huge effect on performance, and the improved CAS timings on some of the high-end SKUs can result in better overall FPS and system responsiveness. This is especially true for AMD's Ryzen CPUs and 3D V-Cache offerings that do benefit a lot from tighter-timed DDR5 kits.

Conclusion - Hand-Picked Hynix Dies For Tuners

Biwin's hand-selected Hynix M-dies show potential; their out-of-the-box performance is really good, and given that the company offers a wide range of options in its Opal DW100 stack, they are a good option for those who want to upgrade to DDR5 platforms.

The kit we tested does come at a high price of $699, and while the prices are very high for DRAM at the moment, the competition offers 48 GB DDR5-6000 (CL40) kits at over $700, making Biwin's option sound much better. The premium build quality, with a fantastic RGB diffuser, also looks great. We just hope that DDR5 prices return to normal as soon as possible so more PC users have access to these exceptional memory products.
