Earlier this month, CAPCOM celebrated Resident Evil Requiem's five million units sold in its first six days on the market. Less than two weeks later, CAPCOM announced another sales milestone: the game has now surpassed six million units, making it by far the fastest-selling entry in the horror franchise.
The ninth mainline installment in Resident Evil has received widespread praise from critics and fans alike. It is tied with Sandfall Interactive's Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 for the highest user score on Metacritic, and it has "Overwhelmingly Positive" (96% approval) reviews on Steam, too, which is also a tie with the award-winning JRPG.
Here on Wccftech, Nathan Birch said about it:
Resident Evil Requiem is the Every-Evil, as Capcom has taken all the things they've done with the franchise over the past decade or so and stitched them together into a towering monster of a survival horror game. Parts of this game are the best, scariest, and most intense this series has ever been, other parts are merely alright, but no part of the game is bad and it's all very distinctly Resident Evil. While it won't be everyone's new favorite, Resident Evil Requiem should hit enough right notes for most fans.
More Resident Evil Requiem is coming soon to its many fans. CAPCOM recently revealed that they are working on a premium story expansion, as well as a "surprise" due in May, presumably the Mercenary mode.
Furthermore, the Japanese developer and publisher is also preparing the celebrations for the 30th anniversary of Resident Evil, which falls on March 22, 2026. CAPCOM teased events such as a collaboration between Universal Studios Japan and Resident Evil Requiem in 2026, and orchestral concerts in Japan, the US, and Europe.
