The renowned independent studio Relic Entertainment, the developers behind iconic franchises such as Company of Heroes and Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War, announced its plans for the future. The company has a strong 27-year legacy, with Relic hoping to usher in a future of commitment and innovation. The studio is changing its strategy, but the strategy it has now gone with will be anchored by three key pillars to keep the studio on track.
First and foremost, Relic Entertainment wants to commit to existing titles. This includes robust support for its acclaimed titles, such as Company of Heroes 3, which just had a new DLC announced for it, as well as a major update. To ensure that the company keeps a close bond with the community, it will be ensuring ongoing updates for its titles, as well as a strong, consistent community engagement to provide a long-lasting experience for players of Relic Entertainment's titles.
Along with this, it also wants to continue to actively pursue the development and publishing of smaller-scope in-house titles in addition to continuing to develop the larger strategy titles that Relic Entertainment is known for. Having these two active streams of development allows the studio to explore and expand in new genres, where it will be able to foster the power of creativity, artistic expression, and innovation.
As we head into a new year, Relic Entertainment wants to dedicate itself to exploring opportunities where it can bring classic titles to modern audiences. Whether this comes in the form of re-releases, remasters, or even a brand-new franchise experience that will have the essence of the original titles while appealing to a new generation of players.
"Relic Entertainment has always been a studio defined by its resilience and passion for creating unforgettable gaming experiences," said Justin Dowdeswell, CEO of Relic Entertainment. "This new chapter marks a significant milestone for us. By embracing independence and focusing on our core strengths, we are confident in our ability to deliver innovative, high-quality games that will resonate with players around the world. The future of Relic Entertainment is bright, and we are excited to embark on this new journey."
Company of Heroes 3 was Relic Entertainment's most recent game, and it's uncertain at the moment if there is anything else in the works other than the massive updates coming to Company of Heroes 3 and Age of Empires IV, which was announced on February 4 in a roadmap for Age of Empires and Age of Mythology.
