Qualcomm is preparing a Snapdragon Dev Kit for developers

The Snapdragon X Plus and Snapdragon X Elite have been announced for a little while now, and to make the process of applications play nice with these chipsets a little easier, Qualcomm has introduced its Snapdragon Dev Kit, which is specifically made for developers. The San Diego firm’s developer hardware is outfitted with its latest and greatest silicon, with all the innards packed inside a portable enclosure that measures just eight inches. Naturally, the Dev Kit is equipped with other impressive specifications to make the app development process faster, as you will soon find out.

The Snapdragon Dev Kit is priced at $899.99 and resembles a mini PC like Apple’s Mac mini

The images of the Snapdragon Dev Kit reveal a black finish, with the Snapdragon logo on the top of the casing. The start of the show is the top-end Snapdragon X Elite that is supposedly running at a TDP of 80W. We reported previously that the same chipset was tested at power limits of 23W and 80W in laptops, with a higher-binned part capable of reaching a package power of 98.50W. Given that the Snapdragon Dev Kit is aimed at developers, Qualcomm likely wanted this hardware to operate at its maximum performance.

The rest of the specifications include 32GB of LPDDR5X RAM, which cannot be upgraded, and 512GB of NVMe storage. There are also tons of ports available, ranging from three USB4 inputs with the Type-C interface. There are two additional USB 3.2 ports with the Type-A interface, a single Ethernet jack, 3.5mm headphone and HDMI input. Since developers prefer a multi-monitor setup, the Snapdragon Dev Kit can support up to three 4K monitors running in unison.

Other connectivity options include Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. For power, the Snapdragon Dev Kit relies on a 180W power brick. As for the price, Qualcomm is charging $899.99 per unit, but it is not like the company is just distributing these to every developer who reaches out to the chipset maker. Individuals must fill out a form and specify how many kits they want, but seeing as how this hardware is cheaper than Microsoft’s Surface Pro at $999.99, one can conclude that it is reasonably priced.
