There is no denying that we are officially in an era where AI has become the focal point for almost all tech companies. I remember Qualcomm showing off Stable Diffusion on the phone powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, and that phone was not connected to the internet. However, to make things even better, the company has teamed up with Meta and announced that in 2024, flagship phones are going to get on-device AI support.

Qualcomm and Meta's partnership to bring Llama 2 could change the smartphone industry

Qualcomm has announced that the company is going to work with Meta and bring on-device AI support to next year's flagship phones, as well as PCs. This is going to be done via Meta's Llama 2 large language model. The chipmaker has mentioned how this support will let you use the AI on your phone locally. This means that you will not need any internet. This might sound like a small thing, but this could bring a host of features to your smartphones, making them even more powerful.

It's also worth noting that even though Meta has launched Llama 2, we still don't know if there is going to be any app that the company will launch alongside Qualcomm for the latest flagship phones. However, I am more interested in seeing how AI can assist smartphones in the future. 2024 is not that far, to be honest; this means that we are going to get some really exciting information coming our way.

As for what smartphones are going to support that, Qualcomm has mentioned that next year's flagship phones will have on-device AI support. This means that the likes of the OnePlus 12, Galaxy S24, and phones from Xiaomi will have support for this feature, and we are definitely going to get more phones that will feature this.

Another thing to note here is that this partnership between Qualcomm and Meta does mean that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will be the first chipset to actually bring the support. As that stands, I am still not sure if the new chipset is going to have a different name because with such a marketable feature, there has to be something that helps it stick out.

2024 is not that far, and we already know that OnePlus 12 is going to feature Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. I am really excited to see how this plays out. Having on-device AI is excellent for almost everyone, even if you are looking to just get some help with something or actually are a content creator who needs ideas. The possibilities are limitless, and considering how this is just a start, I am looking forward to seeing how far this actually goes.
