PS5 Emulator SharpEmu Hits A Major Milestone, As Demon’s Souls Remake Reaches Character Creation

A knight character in 'Demon's Souls' confronts a large, horned demon in a dark, gothic setting.

While hardcore Souls series fans would hardly call Demon's Souls Remake developed by Bluepoint Games and FromSoftware exclusively for PlayStation 5 one of the best entries in the series, it is still a game worth playing. Unfortunately, with Sony pulling out from PC ports of single player games, chances of the game eventually hitting Steam or the Epic Games Store are almost non-existent, but the day when PC players will be able to venture into Boletaria is getting closer, thanks to the surprisingly fast progress the SharpEmu emulator has been making.

As reported in a new video shared on YouTube by BrutalSam, the emulator can not only boot the game, but also get as far as character creation. While this may sound like very small progress to the uninitiated, it is indeed big, as this is a required stepping stone for getting in-game and thus full emulation down the line. As the ShadPS4 emulator made similar progress two years back, going from only booting Bloodborne to emulating it properly in a matter of months, it's hard not to get excited by these quick advancements.

Besides getting to the character creator in Demon's Souls Remake, the SharpEmu PlayStation 5 emulator is also being tested with other games like Dreaming Sarah, Void Terrarium, and Dead Cells. Considering how, in the past, emulators had a much easier time emulating 2D games, we should expect the fastest progress to be seen with the roguelike game developed by Motion Twin and Evil Empire, although much focus will obviously go into the remake developed by Bluepoint Games, as it is the game among those under testing not officially available on PC likely at the top of most players' wishlists.

Despite the quick progress of Demon's Souls Remake emulation, we shouldn't expect to play PlayStation 5 exclusive games on PC anytime soon. Although the emulator can currently "load the eboot.bin of real games, execute native CPU instructions, and partially handle kernel-related functionality," several critical components are still missing.
