The PlayStation 5 DualSense controller is fully supported in several PC games, but only via a wired connection, which is a significant limitation over using the controller with the console that Sony doesn't seem to be interested in addressing. However, from today, PC players won't feel treated like second-class citizens anymore, as the new DSX v3.2 Beta 01 update addresses this sore point.
"Added Virtual DualSense with Audio support, allowing games to send native DualSense audio and haptics through DSX over Bluetooth or USB. (Requires DSX+ to create a virtual DualSense as it always has been,)" read the official update notes shared on Steam by developer Paliverse.
As such, using the app will allow users to enjoy the full width of the controller's features over a Bluetooth connection, significantly expanding usability and the gaming experience for those who, for example, use their PC to play games on their televisions while sitting away from the screen, and, as such, are forced to use a Bluetooth connection, which is baffling, especially for those with the expensive DualSense Edge controller.
The new DSX beta update also introduces plenty of other usability improvements for those using DualSense or DualShock controllers on PC:
- Added support for launching DSX manually without Steam, using a 28-day ownership cache before Steam is required again.
- Redesigned the Home page, LED page, Haptics | Rumble page, and Profiles page.
- Overhauled Profiles with a new card-based UI, profile color tags, color filtering, recently used sorting, profile details, usage info, and easier apply/configure/share/duplicate/reset actions.
- Major Button Mapping overhaul with a new mapping workflow, better action filtering, advanced mapping improvements, passthrough controls, Action Block support, and many shortcut/hold/toggle/switch fixes.
- Added controller skin improvements, more gamepad artwork/skins, controller color feedback, and better controller-view persistence.
DSX is only available as a paid app on Steam for $7.99, with an additional $3.99 for the DLC that introduces the required virtual DualSense creation option. However, with today's feature, it is set to become a small price to pay for many users to access the full feature set of the DualSense controller, no matter the connection type.
