One of Google's most hyped events is coming up next month, and we expect the Pixel Watch 3 to be rolled out at the big unveil on August 13. As the company prepares for the wearable's release, the smartwatch has recently been submitted to the Federal Communication Commission for regulatory approval. Earlier reports speculated the tech giant is planning to bring UWB for Watch Unlock, but details on this have been scarce until now.
Pixel Watch 3 makes it to FCC and it is going to come with 5 GHz Wi-Fi and finally have Ultra-Wideband support
Google usually follows an October launch window for its smartwatch launches, but it is changing this pattern and bringing several other upgrades with the upcoming devices. With the Made by Google Event officially confirmed for August 13th, the focal point of news seems to be either the upcoming Pixel 9 or the much-anticipated new model of the Pixel Watch.
As reported by 9to5Google, the Pixel Watch 3 appeared on the FCC website for approval on Sunday, and four models of the wearable made it to the regulation. The process is clearly not for Pixel 9 but for the wearable as the method to access the FCC electronic mark is the same as for Google's current Wear OS devices, where you go to Settings > System > Regulatory information.
Around March, news regarding the new generation Pixel Watch coming with a new functionality was making the rounds as it was said that Google had UWB support under development for the upcoming model. Now, with FCC labels, that has been confirmed, as all the given models are said to support the Ultra-Wideband (UWB). With the UWB range, the Pixel Watch 3 could get the Watch Unlock advancement when connected to the Pixel smartphone and open doors for far more capabilities.
Additionally, the Pixel Watch 3 would be upgraded from the first two generations as it would provide 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax support, whereas the previous models were limited to 802.11 b/g/n 2.4 GHz. The 5 GHz Wi-Fi technology coming to the new wearable would greatly improve the speed of data transmission, help reduce congestion and interference, and provide overall better stability.
Some of the models are shown to come with LTE connectivity, while others support only Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. We see about eight bands in the GBDU9 and GG3HH testing, but for the GGE4J and GRY0E, we notice five straps, which could hint at the disparity in the expected sizes, respectively: 41mm and 45mm.
This year, the FCC listing did not give away information regarding the band types like the predecessor. The Pixel Watch 3 will not be coming in with major design upgrades and will follow the same display format as the previous generation except for a thicker chassis and relatively thinner bezels. With 5GHz connectivity and UWB coming to the wearable, users will have more to look forward to in the big reveal next month.
