The Tensor G5 was supposed to take Google out of the continuous criticism streams that the company had to endure because it was assumed that Samsung’s foundry was the reason why the Pixel lineup suffered from low performance and overheating compared to the competition. Unfortunately, history has repeated itself because, in the latest speed test, the Pixel 10 Pro XL, which is regarded as a rival to the newly announced iPhone 17 Pro Max, gets rag-dolled by Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Ultra, despite sporting other upgrades such as UFS 4.0 and 16GB RAM.

Various processor-intensive applications are too much for the Pixel 10 Pro XL’s Tensor G5, causing the Galaxy S25 Ultra to obtain an unbeatable lead throughout the speed test

Comparing the two flagships, the YouTube channel PhoneBuff revealed that the Pixel 10 Pro XL is sporting 33 percent more RAM than the Galaxy S25 Ultra, meaning that Google’s top-end smartphone can keep more applications running in the background, giving it an edge in this speed test. Unfortunately, from start to finish, Samsung’s premium offering maintained a decisive lead over the Pixel 10 Pro XL, with the latter’s only shining moment materializing when it took a lead against its rival when opening up ESPN.

These differences highlight that the Snapdragon 8 Elite is far more capable than the Tensor G5, hinting that Google should evaluate whether it wants to proceed with the Tensor G6 launch next year and continue trailing behind the competition, or switch to the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and count itself as a worthy adversary in the premier smartphone category. When the first lap is completed, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is a whopping 33 seconds ahead of the Pixel 10 Pro XL, with the time recorded below:

Galaxy S25 Ultra - 02:25.18, or 2 minutes and 25 seconds

Pixel 10 Pro XL - 02:58.25, or 2 minutes and 58 seconds

Thanks to the increased 16GB RAM, the Pixel 10 Pro XL manages to maintain its pace with the Galaxy S25 Ultra, but it matters little at this point because of the significant speed gap created in the first lap. In the end, Google’s flagship finishes the second lap in 55 seconds, with the Galaxy S25 Ultra finishing in 53 seconds. With Apple just recently kicking off pre-orders for the iPhone 17, an iPhone 17 Pro Max speed test against these smartphones is just around the corner, but if you are impressed with Samsung’s flagship and have been mulling a purchase like this, you can grab a discounted version from Amazon for only $1,049.99 after a $250 price cut.
