Google finally held its much-anticipated event, Made by Google 2025, and it was packed with some major announcements and a unique way of presenting, with Jimmy Fallon taking over as the host. While the event was a star-studded affair, it did not overshadow the major hardware announcements that the tech giant was to make today. Like we expected, the Pixel 10 series remained the highlight of the keynote, bringing a suite of upgrades over its predecessors. Our attention, however, remained on the Pixel 10 Pro Fold and the significant advancements it was bringing about, and let’s say the model is here to set a new benchmark for the industry.
Pixel 10 Pro Fold is here to compete with Galaxy Z Fold 7, featuring an IP68 rating, Qi2 wireless charging, Tensor G5 chip, and many other upgrades
Google just unveiled its Pixel 10 Pro Fold at the Made by Google event. The model is indeed a well-thought-out evolution in the foldable smartphone category and could end up rivaling Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 with tons of key upgrades this time around. The tech giant did not focus on radical designs but more on refining its features to bring in more durability, better performance, and display quality. The results of the efforts can be seen with a more polished and practical Fold device.
At first glance, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold sports the same design reminiscent of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, but there are some subtle changes brought about to offer better ergonomics and make the model more comfortable to hold. The device is 0.3mm thicker than its predecessor but slightly narrower, due to the addition of a new gearless hinge. Despite the larger form factor of the foldable, these upgrades make the device easier to hold. The Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the rear panel and rails adds to the premium look of the Pro Fold while adding to the durability of the device.
Since durability has been a concern for foldable smartphones, Google seems to be paying great attention to removing this pain point for users by making the Pixel 10 Pro Fold the first foldable smartphone to come with an IP68 rating and offering complete water and dust resistance. There is no need to worry about dust ingress or accidental slips due to the great resistance the model brings about. As per the claims made by Google, the new hinge would be able to handle 180,000 folds, which roughly translates to 10 years of daily use. Given how the foldable market invites criticism for the fragility of the devices, this leap is huge and can help position the Pixel 10 Pro Fold as the device that offers longevity.
The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is equipped with Google’s Tensor G5 chip and paired with 16GB of RAM, which enhances its robust performance and allows for more advanced AI capabilities. With features like Magic Cue, the model can proactively display relevant information based on context. Google seems to be determined to offer a more intuitive approach for its foldable devices by adding other functionalities such as drag-and-drop to improve multitasking and handling of varied apps simultaneously.
Now coming to the display of the Pro Fold, the new model comes with an 8-inch inner display and a 6.4-inch outer screen, with the inner display offering brightness of up to 3,000 nits, making it ideal to use outdoors and in bright conditions. With the help of the 5,015 mAh battery capacity, the device could extend to 30 hours of usage and address another hiccup with foldables, which is the limited battery life. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold seems to be shaping up as the device that can handle high-demand daily use with great ease.
Another leap that Google has taken with the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is embracing the Qi2 wireless charging standard and introducing the "Pixelsnap" ecosystem that includes magnetic accessories to help secure alignment for the wireless charging. The fold phone also offers charging speeds up to 25W, which allows for a fast charging experience. In terms of the camera setup, the Fold model features a triple rear camera system with a 48MP wide lens, a 10.5MP ultrawide lens with macro focus, and a 10.8MP telephoto lens, allowing for more detailed and long-distance shots. With the help of AI-powered features, computational photography is further enhanced.
While the Pixel 10 Pro Fold has been officially announced and open for pre-orders, the shipment of the models will not begin until October 9th, as the tech giant ensures the device and the software features are fully ready. The starting price of the base model with 256GB of storage and 16GB of RAM is $1,799, unchanged from the price of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Google is also offering 512GB and 1TB storage options at a higher price.
The Pixel 10 Pro Fold comes in two fresh color options, Moonstone and Jade, which add a vibrant touch to the model, stepping away from the classic tones of the previous models. Google is making a strong statement with its Pixel 10 Pro Fold: Foldable smartphones have matured and moved from experimental devices to building more reliable and long-term devices.
