While Crimson Desert's physical game sales in the US weren't enough to make major waves on the US sales charts for its launch month, it's a pretty sure bet that with its global physical and digital sales combined, it'll go down as one of the best-selling games of the year. It's already crossed 5 million copies sold, and a new report reveals that developer Pearl Abyss is sharing a bit of the wealth from its success with the entire development team.
A report from Korean publication MTN claims that every single one of Pearl Abyss' employees were given a bonus of 5 million Won, which works out to be about $3,400 USD, to celebrate Crimson Desert surpassing 5 million copies sold.
In a statement (via machine translation), Pearl Abyss chief executive officer Heo Jin-young said, "I express my deep respect and gratitude for the hard work of each and every one of you who created a product that the world is enthusiastic about, and I am paying a celebratory bonus for achieving 5 million sales to all employees who have silently fulfilled their roles in their respective positions."
Jin-young added, "Our journey does not end here. The potential we have confirmed today will be the most powerful driving force to overcome any challenge we face in the future."
Pearl Abyss reportedly has an estimated 733 employees, so the bonus is not an insignificant sum for the company to pay to every employee. But it's a pittance compared to the value of 733 people happily working in tandem towards a collective goal, and the value of what actions like these do for Pearl Abyss' reputation as a publisher.
