We already know that Samsung's Galaxy Z TriFold is quite fragile, with the hinge starting to creak at around the 60,000-fold mark.
However, a new bend test has just illustrated exactly how fragile the triple-folding smartphone is in real-world settings.
The Galaxy Z TriFold becomes the first Samsung smartphone to fail JerryRigEverything's bend test
JerryRigEverything has just posted an interesting video to his YouTube channel, showing the Galaxy Z TriFold failing the famous bend test.
Critically, the YouTuber claims that the Galaxy Z TriFold's "thin plastic back panels [do] not [add] any additional structural support."
Do note that Samsung claims that the Galaxy Z TriFold can endure 200,000 folding cycles, which is less than the Galaxy Z Fold 7's 500,000 cycles.
However, OMG_electronics recently showed that the Galaxy Z TriFold's hinge starts creaking at around the 61,000-fold mark, while the hinge gives way at around the 144,000-fold mark.
We reported recently that, as per industry estimates, Samsung has only sold between 3,000 and 4,000 units of the Galaxy Z TriFold, and does not expect total sales to go past the 30,000 - 40,000-unit mark globally.
Here are the key specs of the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold:
- Dimensions of 159.2mm x 214.1mm x 3.9-4.2 mm when unfolded, with the device's thickness increasing to 12.9mm when folded.
