AMD is absent when gamers need its help, but no worries! Optiscaler is one step ahead, thanks to the contributors.
Optiscaler Version 0.9.0-Pre10 Test Build Now Offers FSR 4 Support for Vulkan Games
AMD isn't moving an inch when it comes to extending FSR 4.0 (FidelityFX Super Resolution) support. It has not just restricted FSR 4 to RDNA 4 GPUs; it has also made its availability limited to only DX12 titles. It has been nearly a year since the new upscaler from AMD was rolled out, but to this day, AMD just couldn't enable FSR 4 on Vulkan titles.
Thanks to the Optiscaler contributors, the popular upscaling swapper tool has now been released with a test build that adds FSR 4 support to Vulkan games. As spotted by the Redditor u/eduhfx, the Optsicaler Version 0.9.0-pre10 Test Build is bringing FSR 4 to Vulkan, as can be seen from the changelog as reported by the Redditor:
Added Vulkan w/Dx12 support – FSR4 VK w/Dx12, FSR 2.1 VK w/Dx12
Hence, many modern Vulkan games like Doom: The Dark Ages, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle that could have benefited from the latest FSR 4 upscaling technology can finally enjoy better visuals than before. While AMD did work on enabling FSR 4 on FSR 3.1-supported titles with its latest drivers, Vulkan titles remained excluded from this reach. Through Optiscaler's test build, users can enable FSR 4 by swapping the FSR 3.1 with the FSR 4, but this wouldn't have been possible natively.
It's mind-boggling why AMD is even taking so much time to expand FSR 4's support to more games and hardware, considering it's way better than any other previous version of FSR. Even the Performance mode in FSR 4 looks better than FSR 3.1's quality preset. We have seen that with some workarounds, users can turn on FSR 4 on previous-gen GPUs, including RX 6000 and RX 7000 families, and all it needs to be officially supported is the INT8 version of the upscaler.
