OnePlus 13 rumored to feature customized Snapdragon 8 Gen 4

A glimpse of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4’s performance was showcased in the OnePlus13 when the chipset obtained one of the highest single-core scores and even beat the A18 Pro by 18 percent in the multi-core results. At the time that these results leaked, there was no mention of the chipset’s power consumption, and the latter is a key metric when gauging a smartphone chipset’s capabilities. According to one of the OnePlus executives, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is said to be a customized version for the upcoming flagship that beats Apple’s top-end silicon in the power efficiency category.

Previous results show that the A18 Pro was consuming 12 watts when it attained slightly less than 10,000 points in Geekbench 6; ‘customized’ Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 would have to consume less wattage

On Weibo, OnePlus executive Cai Zuxuan has published a bold claim on the micro-blogging platform, claiming that the company will employ the use of a customized Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 that beats the A18 Pro in power efficiency. For comparison, an individual with the username Jikanglucky reveals that Apple’s flagship SoC powering the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max consumed a maximum of 12 watts when running Geekbench 6, and it obtained a single-core and multi-core score of 3,701 and 9,615, respectively.

The OnePlus 13 that was previously spotted on Geekbench 6 had scores of 3,236 and 10,049, with the performance cores running at 4.32GHz and the efficiency ones running at 3.53GHz. Qualcomm has likely given its phone partners the liberty to tweak the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4’s frequencies to gain a performance edge, just as long as those manufacturers can tame the thermals. The aforementioned clock speeds are relatively high, but there is no mention of how hot the chipset gets or anything related to its power draw.

Also, the Weibo post shared by @4k_isn on X has formed a thread, with various people commenting that OnePlus has claimed in the past that it has beaten Apple, only to come up short on numerous occasions. Whether the company repeats history again or finally secures a win, we will find out in the coming days, so stay tuned.
