OnePlus 12R owners start receiving refunds

The OnePlus 12R recently launched at an attractive price of $599.99 in the U.S., offering impressive hardware for the money that buyers were being charged for. The company also marketed the 256GB ‘price to performance’ handset as sporting the faster UFS 4.0 standard, but thanks to a series of tests, it was found that OnePlus was lying to its customers, as it was using the slower UFS 3.1 memory. To make up for its false advertising, the smartphone maker is now issuing refunds to anyone who picked up the 256GB storage variant.

OnePlus 12R users to be offered a full refund for those who picked the 256GB storage version, but for a limited time

OnePlus’s president and COO, Kinder Liu, has published additional details on the company’s community page. The update comes after the executive put out a public apology over the OnePlus 12R’s false advertising and has decided to compensate customers accordingly.

“If you've received a OnePlus 12R 256GB variant and want to discuss the situation with the file system type on your phone, please contact Customer Service through your usual channel. They will be able to discuss next steps with you, up to and including a refund until 16th March 2024.

We're still confident that OnePlus 12R lives up to the high expectations you have of our devices, and that you will love it when you try it. But I also hope that our quick action shows that we value our relationship with you, our Community, and has helped restore your trust in us.”

Unfortunately, it is not like this is some perpetual dual from OnePlus, as the refunds for the 256GB storage variant will stop being issued after March 16, so you have around a month to take advantage of this offer. False advertising aside, the 256GB storage variant of the OnePlus 12R still exudes incredible value because, according to Amazon’s $599.99 listing, you not only get 16GB RAM with the package but also Qualcomm’s previous-generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset.

OnePlus’ marketing team will likely be careful about making such false claims again, but if they do, you can rest assured that some eagle-eyed individuals will do their best to verify the authenticity of these claims.
