Next year will be the first time that Apple bids partial farewell to mini-LED technology in favor of OLED for the M6 MacBook Pro, but there is going to be a significant revamp in 2026 because the company is also reported to bring a ‘notchless’ touchscreen to these machines. As the majority of you know, touch support on a Mac is an addition that the Cupertino firm maintained a significant distance from due to several drawbacks. However, a lot can happen in a few years, but be warned that all of these upgrades will be costly.

Instead of a notch, Apple is reportedly adopting a punch-hole cutout on the M6 MacBook Pro

The OLED M6 MacBook Pro is expected to launch between late 2026 and early 2027, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, and with the notch finally getting removed, we will get to see a punch-hole cutout housing the FaceTime camera. Coming to the touchscreen, the biggest problem with Windows-powered laptops is the annoying screen wobble.

Apple’s hinge control and tightness for its MacBooks have always been legendary, but the company is said to be reinforcing this component to prevent unnecessary finger-bouncing when interacting with the OLED panel. As for the M6, the SoC could be mass produced on TSMC’s 2nm ‘N2’ process, making it the first Apple Silicon to adopt this lithography for this product category.

Sadly, and this is something that we have mentioned above, these upgrades will carry a steeper price, but Gurman has not seen fit to divulge these details, likely because he does not possess them himself.

Not all M6 MacBook Pro models will get the OLED upgrade - Here is what you need to know

Not all M6 MacBook Pro versions will be created equally, and we found this out thanks to the machines’ unique identifier code present in macOS Tahoe. The base 14-inch model features the number J804, while the ones getting treated to the OLED, touchscreen, and slimmer chassis feature the unique identifier code K116. Likely, the 14-inch portable Mac will not feature a touchscreen and all the other goodies to keep the price low, which is a shame, but most people will settle for a chipset-only upgrade.
