The iPad Pro will undergo a major redesign later this month as Apple has planned a plethora of changes for its biggest tablet. The devices are slated to be released by the end of this month but have seen various delays over the past few months. This means that there is a chance the company could opt for a release scheduled for later than the speculated time frame. However, there have been no details on the delay so far. Among the new additions, Apple aims to shift the Face ID sensors and the front camera on the OLED iPad Pro and iPad Air models to landscape orientation instead of portrait.
OLED iPad Pro and iPad Air models to feature Face ID and Camera in landscape mode, following the iPad 10's design
Samsung's latest Galaxy S9 Ultra tablet features a front-facing camera that is in landscape mode. The move clarifies that the tablet is most used in landscape mode and for better reasons, offering a wider view of the display. Apple is expected to bring the change for the new OLED iPad Pro models, and according to a new leak, the landscape Face ID and camera orientation will also be available on the forthcoming iPad Air models.
Apple will upgrade both versions of the iPad Pro, which includes the 11-inch and 13-inch models. However, the company also has plans to upgrade the iPad Air lineup alongside the 'Pro' models. A leaker known as Instant Digital states on Weibo that the Face ID and camera orientation switch on the iPad Pro will also trickle down to the iPad Air lineup.
Note that the company already offers the front-facing camera in landscape mode on the iPad 10. It took Apple some time to realize that it was a better choice for iPad users. Seemingly, Apple could bring the same change in design to additional iPad models as well, including the iPad mini 7. The iPad mini 7 will see the daylight sometime later this year, according to past reports.
Apple will have to make some adjustments on the inside of the device to change the position of the Face ID sensors and the camera. This is because the rest of the internals could remain the same on the iPad Pro and iPad Air. While the company is planning to redesign the iPad Pro lineup radically, it remains to be seen what kind of changes the company has planned for the iPad Air.
The iPad Air will be available in two display sizes this year - 10.9 inches and 12.9 inches. However, the OLED iPad Pro models will also see an upgrade in screen size, offering a slightly larger panel than the current models. The company is working to offer a wide range of new changes, and we suspect that the new design could feature slimmer bezels as well compared to the current tablet variants. Note that these are mere speculation at this stage as the final word rests with Apple. What are your design expectations for the iPad Pro? Let us know in the comments.
