A new version of the NVIDIA RTX Remix modding tools is now available, introducing a new system that promises to elevate the fire and smoke effects of older games.

The new 1.2 version of the modding tools, which can now be downloaded via the NVIDIA App, introduces an advanced path-traced particle system that allows modders to enhance traditional fire and smoke effects, which continued to lack detail, flair, and fluid animations using older versions of the tools. With this new system, games can now have particle effects that can match those in modern games, as seen in some comparison videos showcasing improvements in Half-Life 2 RTX, where the system can be employed to enhance the looks of the Antlion Guard as well, and Portal with RTX. A final video also shows how the new version of NVIDIA RTX Remix allows users to add these path-traced particles even during regular gameplay, making it easier than ever to enhance old games.
