NVIDIA is preparing a new variant of its GeForce RTX 5050 graphics card, which will feature 9 GB of memory capacity.
NVIDIA Working On A Second GeForce RTX 5050 Graphics Card Featuring 1 GB of Extra memory
The report comes from MEGAsizeGPU who has a solid track record when it comes to NVIDIA-related GPU SKU leaks. As per the new information, NVIDIA is preparing a second GeForce RTX 5050 GPU, which would offer extra memory capacity.
The new product will be named the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5050, but unlike the existing model, which packs 8 GB of GDDR7 memory, the new model will offer 9 GB of GDDR7 memory. The graphics card will feature 96-bit memory compared to the 128-bit memory on the existing model.
The difference is that the existing model features 20 Gbps GDDR6 memory dies, which offer 320 GB/s of bandwidth, whereas the newer model will leverage 28 Gbps GDDR7 memory dies, which will provide 336 GB/s of memory bandwidth. This is a 5% improvement in bandwidth and 12.5% more VRAM versus the existing model.
In terms of specifications, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5050 9 GB will likely retain the same core specs, leveraging the GB207 GPU, the smallest in the Blackwell gaming lineup. This chip will feature 2560 cores, which is the same as the RTX 3050, but with the new Blackwell core architecture. We don't expect any changes to the 130W TDP.

Additionally, the leaker states that NVIDIA will produce GeForce RTX 5060 GPUs using GB205 GPU dies. Since the RTX 5060 Ti 8 GB has been prioritized over the 16 GB model, there is an evident lack of GB206 GPUs on the market, and NVIDIA is said to fulfill the supply by offering AICs with defective GB205 dies. This would also push AICs to make brand-new PCBs that support the GB205 GPUs for entry-level graphics cards, such as the RTX 5060, and that also support standard 8-pin connectors.
From what we have learned, AICs are struggling to produce several cards, mainly the entry-level lineup, such as the RTX 5050, RTX 5060, and even the 5070 Ti, which is hampered due to ongoing shortages. The RTX 3060 also remains a focus to fulfill some demand in the entry-level segment.
