NVIDIA is discontinuing its older Jetson developer modules due to shortages and rising prices of LPDDR4 memory.
Higher LPDDR4 Prices & Memory Shortages Affect SBCs Too, as Older NVIDIA Jetson Modules Now Being Phased Out
NVIDIA's Jetson modules are embedded platforms that are designed for robotics and Edge AI workloads. Think of them as NVIDIA's Raspberry Pi solutions. These SBCs or Single-Board Computers come in various shapes and sizes, all featuring a compact form factor. But in light of recent memory shortages & increasing prices, NVIDIA's partners are now phasing out older Jetson modules.
The models that have been affected are the older 2017-2020 Jetson variants, the TX2 and Xavier series. What is common in both of these products is that they feature LPDDR4 memory, and considering that LPDDR4 is in short supply, the company is now discontinuing production and pushing users to migrate to its new Jetson platforms, such as Orin and Thor series.
Currently, nothing is safe from ongoing price hikes. Raspberry Pi modules have also seen price hikes, and we have seen major manufacturers such as Samsung end LPDDR4/X production, further stressing the low-end markets. Although others have taken up the task to continue LPDDR4/X production, the demand for the memory is still high, leaving older Jetson platforms in a dire position.
As per CNX-Software, the following NVIDIA Jetson models have been impacted by the LPDDR4 shortages:
- NVIDIA Jetson TX2 NX (4GB and 8GB)
- NVIDIA Jetson TX2i (all SKUs)
- NVIDIA Jetson AGX Xavier (32GB and Industrial)
- NVIDIA Jetson Xavier NX
And the EOL schedule is shared below:
- Now – All new purchase orders for products integrating TX2 NX, TX2i, AGX Xavier, and Xavier NX modules are Non-Cancelable, Non-Returnable (NCNR)
- July 1, 2026 – CTI last time buy of TX2 NX, TX2i, AGX Xavier, and Xavier NX modules (final purchase orders accepted)
- July 15, 2026 – All existing purchase orders for products integrating TX2 NX, TX2i, AGX Xavier, and Xavier NX modules convert to NCNR
- July 15, 2027 – Last time ship for orders with products integrating TX2 NX, TX2i, AGX Xavier, and Xavier NX modules
We will define migration paths to next-generation platforms, including NVIDIA Jetson Orin and emerging architectures, aligned to your application and lifecycle requirements. We will provide supporting collateral, guidance, and documentation to enable informed planning and execution of migration strategies.
All latest NVIDIA Jetson platforms feature LPDDR5 memory, which itself is facing shortages due to the overwhelming demand from AI datacenters. While the newer platforms are available, prices are seeing massive hikes. Samsung has stated that things are going to be worse for the DRAM market in 2027 than they are in 2026, so expect higher prices and minimal availability across retailers.
