Well, in 2025, several nations invested heavily in developing AI datacenters, with the leaders being countries from the Middle East, such as Saudi Arabia and the UAE, and European nations as well. NVIDIA's CEO has declared this to be called 'sovereign AI', and now, in an interview with BG2, Jensen Huang claims that building up AI infrastructure would become a necessity for nations, and the importance is so massive that it is probably bigger than building atomic bombs when you factor in the long-term potential of the technology.
Nobody needs atomic bombs, everyone needs AI. AI as you know is modern software, that's where I started. From general-purpose computing to accelerated computing. From human-written code to AI written code. That foundation cannot be forgotten. We reinvented computing and everybody needs computing. All of the countries realize that they have to get into the AI world.
It's interesting to see Jensen take such a stance on 'Sovereign AI.' Based on what we are witnessing, countries are rushing to adopt the whole AI tech stack. State-backed entities like HUMAIN AI are pouring tens of billions into developing independent compute power to deploy and run high-end AI models. Jensen claims that every country needs to have some 'sovereign AI' deployment, since it is as essential as electricity, water, and similar infrastructure.
This is one reason Jensen has become an essential entity for the current administration and probably why he 'roams' with President Trump on visits worldwide. Jensen claims that nations will eventually need to adopt AI into manufacturing, industrial, and national security operations, which is why having an independent computing platform is a necessary step for countries across the globe. Of course, AI is still in its 'naive stage' regarding government-level adoption, but we know that early adopters often win the race.
