Nintendo Switch Successor May Release Not Too Long After Its Announcement

The Nintendo Switch was announced back in 2015, two years before the console was officially launched worldwide. This long wait from announcement to release, however, may be shorter for the company's next system, judging from a recent statement from President Shuntaro Furukawa, as the two years long wait was a special case.

During a Q&E session held after the release of the company's latest financial results, president Shuntaro Furukawa was asked about the announcement of the Nintendo Switch and if the two years between announcement and release could be considered a success in terms of hardware marketing. Furukawa-san stated in response that the announcement was made as the company needed to "let people know that Nintendo would be continuing to focus on the dedicated video game platform business" as their core business after announcing it would work on mobile games. As such, this long wait was a special case, suggesting that the Switch's successor may not take as much time to release after its announcement.

While nothing is currently known about the Nintendo Switch successor, Shuntaro Furukawa did make an interesting statement that suggests the next console may not be a simple new and improved version of their successful hybrid console. Answering a question regarding the number of annual playing users influencing the release of new hardware, Furukawa-san stated that Nintendo is "always working on various projects aimed at the future by asking ourselves what kind of fun proposal we can make which can possibly provide new and unique entertainment."

As of now, the only thing we do know for certain regarding the Nintendo Switch's successor is that it will not release this fiscal year, although work is said to be proceeding smoothly. It may also be a hybrid console like its predecessor, as Sharp recently revealed it will supply LCD screens to a new console, which could indeed be the next console from Nintendo. When do you expect the next console from the Japanese company to release, and what will it be capable of? Let us know in the comments.
