AOKP is the first name to come to mind whenever we talk about custom ROMs for Android. It is one the best and most popular third party development project making AOKP a talk of the whole town over the past year. There were many times when developers tried to skip over it because of so many delays in releases based on Android 4.2, but still it remained like a hot cake.
But the long, painful wait is OVER! Team Kang has officially announced the release (and in fact have released) of Android Jelly Bean 4.2.1-based AOKP JB-MR1 Build 1, starting from… Nexus line of devices.
Nexus devices get Jelly Bean 4.2.1-based AOKP being the first line of devices to get this sort of honor. As far as the changes are concerned, the changes in Android 4.2 from Android 4.1 in this AOKP release aren’t as many as we normally saw in the previous major releases. But yet, they are still substantial enough to improve the overall user experience on the devices.
AOKP has always focused on Nexus line of devices since its very inception and that is the reason why these devices are getting this release before anyone else too. The Team Kang team is working on other devices as well and they won’t be left out for long. Devices such as galaxy S II, Galaxy S III, Galaxy Note and Note II will get this support for the next build. And then many other Android devices will follow the suite as well. Get the Android Jelly Bean 4.2.1-Based AOKP for the following devices:
- Galaxy Nexus International/GSM (maguro)
- Galaxy Nexus Verizon (toro)
- Nexus 4 (mako)
- Nexus 7 WiFi (grouper)
- Nexus 10 (mantaray)
Including all the features from previous AOKP, nexus devices will get in this Jelly Bean 4.2.1-based AOKP:
- Unlimited lock screen widgets of any sort
- Menu arrow keys while typing
- Completely customizable NavBar buttons, color & transparency including with widget support
- Statusbar transparency
- Safe headset volume warning toggle
- Customizable tile-based status bar toggle
- And several bug fixes, core Android 4.2.1 features with many under-the-hood-optimizations.
