Netflix could cancel your account if you pay from Apple's App Store

Apple is bringing a plethora of changes with the release of iOS 17.4 early next month. We have previously stated that the company will see fit to make the platform available to the general public ahead of March 6 to comply with EU regulations under the Digital Markets Act. Ahead of its official release, Netflix is making a change in its payment system, convincing users to switch to a new payment method if they want to keep their accounts active.

Netflix wants users to pay for the streaming service through its website instead of the App Store

Netflix is making users move away from Apple's App Store billing system. While the company restricted users from subscribing to its streaming service in 2018 through the App Store, it did not block users who had already subscribed to the service. Users utilized Apple's in-app purchases to subscribe to the service. While Netflix encouraged users to pay for the service from outside the App Store, some users continued their routine as is.

Netflix has a reason why it does not want users to pay for the service through the App Store. The company is currently cracking down on password sharing, which is resulting in slower subscriber growth. The company wants to maximize its profit margins, and with that in mind, it does not want to pay Apple a 15 percent share of the total cost for the subscription.

According to information shared by 9to5mac, Netflix's support website in the United States mentions that users will have to add a separate payment method in some countries. This will make users switch from the App Store to its own payment method.

Some Apple-billed members in select countries may be prompted to add a new payment method to continue their subscription.

The company did not state the list of countries, but it possibly includes the United States. Netflix has also not shared the number of subscribers who are still using Apple's billing method. However, once the transition is complete, Netflix's revenue could grow as it would not be paying Apple a cut of the subscription fee. If you are interested in switching to Netflix's payment method, you can head over to the company's website.

If you want to keep using the service, you should subscribe to the streaming service through its website. If you do not, the company could suspend your account. However, Netflix has not given a time frame for the cancelation. We will share more details on the subject, so be sure to stick around.
