It seemed like everything was smooth sailing for French publisher Nacon just a few short weeks ago. On February 23, the studio revealed its annual Nacon Connect showcase would return with news and reveals for what the publisher had lined up for the year. Two days later, the studio's outlook for 2026 looked very different, as it filed for insolvency after its parent company, Bigben Interactive, ran into a financial crisis that left it, and Nacon, short on options.
While the publisher has since released statements meant to reassure players that it will ensure its current lineup of games for the year make it out the door and into players hands, and that its Nacon Connect show will return at some point in May 2026, another report adds an even darker cloud over the company's current situation.
Per French publication Origami, three of Nacon's studios, Cyanide Studio, Spiders, and Kylotonn, have paused payments to their employees and have been placed under receivership. Cyanide's receivership also dominoes to impact Big Bad Wolf, the studio behind the upcoming Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss.
Overall, an estimated 320 game developers are impacted by the four studios new status, and their future, along with the possibility of any of their games making it to release, is put into question even more than it was before.
Cyanide's most recent release was this year's Styx: Blades of Greed, while racing developer Kylotonn has been working to fix Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown. Meanwhile, the Spiders team launched the 1.0 version of Greedfall: The Dying World earlier this month on March 10, 2026. Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss developer Big Bad Wolf was the only team still working towards a coming release date, as The Cosmic Abyss is set to arrive on April 16, 2026.
Now, though, the future of these developers, and their games, both announced and unannounced projects, is left in limbo. Hopefully, Nacon will be back on its feet sooner than later, and we won't see one of France's biggest publishers fall to liquidation.
